MINNESOTA - When it rains, it pours. Minnesota's lefty Joe Saunders will not pitch for at least 7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (A) where he left the field in the 2nd inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Bone Chips Elbow. Opposing players hit .365 against Joe this season. While posting an ERA of 7.88 he went 3-19 in 28 starts, fanning 91 and walking 17 hitters.
Tuesday 9/13/2009: Los Angeles (N)'s Floyd severely injured
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s leftfielder Cliff Floyd will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Los Angeles (N) and New York (N). The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Floyd collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Floyd was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Thigh Muscle. While compiling an on base percentage of .348, Cliff hit .307 and slugged .428. He has collected 64 runs batted in this year. He's 7th in the National League in batting!
Tuesday 9/13/2009: Vicente Padilla quiets Kansas City bats with shutout
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's right-hander Vicente Padilla is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Kansas City on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 8th time he has done it in his career. Padilla (8-16) fanned 8 and walked none, throwing 103 pitches. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' The hitting star for Baltimore was catcher Johnny Estrada, he got 1 hit in 3 AB, homering once, and collecting 3 RBI. Baltimore scored 3 runs on 6 hits.
Monday 9/12/2009: Branyan and Wang win Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Detroit's Russell Branyan this time, as the rightfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .577 and hit .522, while driving in 10 runs. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 14 games. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Chien-Ming Wang, one of Florida's best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.06 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .216 against Chien-Ming this season. While posting an ERA of 3.00 he went 17-9 in 33 starts, fanning 74 and walking 105 hitters. He has 11 complete games and 2 shutouts.

DETROIT - Craig Brazell can hit'em a long way, and Detroit pitchers couldn't smile about that today. Seattle's first baseman unloaded three bombs, adding to his reputation of being one of the best power hitters in the game. Number 1 in the 2nd inning, a shot estimated at 421 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. That one tied it at 1 runs apiece. A pitch from Livan Hernandez in the 5th inning left his bat for a three-run homerun, landing 337 feet from home plate in right field. A 372 foot drive to right-center marked his 3rd bomb, a two-run homerun off Nate Teut in the 9th inning. Overall he got 3 hits in 4 AB, with FIVE runs scored and collecting 6 RBI. His homerun total this year is 35, along with 109 RBI. The final score of the game was 16-5.

CLEVELAND - Cleveland's right-hander Kelvim Escobar is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Baltimore found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Escobar 4th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 9th shutouts in his career. Escobar (18-7) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 2, throwing 127 pitches. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Pedro Valdes helped Escobar at the plate, he went 2 for 4, blasting a homerun, scoring two runs. Cleveland improved its record to 87-55, scoring 4 runs on 7 hits.
