CHICAGO (A) - Old men can't play baseball? Tell that to Willie Greene who tonight defied logic, and slammed three jacks. Number 1 in the 3rd inning, a shot estimated at 368 feet, cleared the wall in left field. A pitch from Derek Lowe in the 5th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 437 feet from home plate in center field. A 432 foot drive to right-center marked his 3rd bomb, a solo homerun off Alfredo Aceves in the 9th inning. Willie got 3 hits in 4 AB, with three runs scored and collecting 4 RBI. His homerun total this year is 14, along with 59 RBI. It's pretty obvious that he will enter the Hall of Fame some day! Toronto improved its record to 108-47, scoring 4 runs on 8 hits.
Thursday 9/22/2009: Oakland's Gagne severely injured
OAKLAND - Oakland is without its right-hander Eric Gagne for at least 8-9 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Pokey Reese in a game against Seattle. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Ruptured Tricep Tendon which will require surgery. His ERA of 2.12 helped him to a 5-3 record this year. He struck out 68 and walked 30 in 80.2 innings.
Tuesday 9/20/2009: Adrian Beltre clubs five hits in a game
NEW YORK (A) - On Tuesday, Seattle's third baseman Adrian Beltre displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against New York (A), punishing their pitchers with five hits. A pitch from Michael Tejera in the 7th inning left his bat for a GRAND SLAM, landing 446 feet from home plate in left-center. His 5th hit, off Michael Tejera in the 9th inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in center field. He collected singles in the 3rd inning , in the 6th inning and in the 8th . Adrian scored 4 runs, and he collected 7 RBI as well! He now has a total of 185 hits this season, accounting for a .304 batting average. The final score of the game was 19-4.

NEW YORK (A) - Adrian Beltre can hit'em a long way, and New York (A) pitchers couldn't smile about that today. Monday 9/19/2009: Cincinnati's Votto wins Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was Minnesota's Adrian Gonzalez, who wins the award for the 4th time in his career. Adrian was on fire, hitting .533 with 5 HR and 8 RBI. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Cincinnati's Joey Votto this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. ATLANTA - Atlanta's right-hander Jason Roach experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 5th inning of the game against Chicago (N), Roach complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Torn Ligament Elbow was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. In 7 starts this year Jason struck out 36 batters in 57.1 innings of work. His ERA is 4.24, his record 2-3.
Friday 9/16/2009: Alex Rodriguez (FLA) will miss 5-6 weeks
FLORIDA - Florida's season took a blow when Alex Rodriguez suffered a serious injury in the game against Washington. He hurt his arm throwing a strike to first base. Rodriguez will probaby miss 5-6 weeks. Bone Chips Shoulder was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials.
