MILWAUKEE - Oliver Perez took the mound and never left. And Milwaukee hitters couldn't touch him at all. St. Louis' southpaw gave up just one hit in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 12 career shutouts in 209 games started. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Perez (6-2) struck out 9 and issued 2 BB, throwing 83 of 133 pitches for strikes. Josh Hamilton helped Perez at the plate, he finished 1 for 4, homering once, with 3 RBI. Monday 5/16/2010: John Thomson dominates Pittsburgh, gives up just 2 hits
PHILADELPHIA - John Thomson had some fun again. Pittsburgh hitters did not. Philadelphia's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 10 career shutouts in 319 games started. Thomson (4-2) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 9. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Philadelphia's shortstop Howie Kendrick finished with 2 hits in 4 AB, doubling once, scoring twice with 4 RBI. BOSTON - Boston is without its right-hander Jeff Austin for at least 4 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Tike Redman in a game against Detroit. Jack Cust from St. Louis wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Jack was on fire, hitting .458 with 4 HR and 8 RBI.
Saturday 5/14/2010: Huge blow for New York (N)'s Kintzler, career over
NEW YORK (N) - It was one of baseball saddest days. New York (N)'s right-hander Brian Kintzler fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Pittsburgh on Saturday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Richie Sexson, then suddenly collapsed. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Back Muscle. Brian has a record of 4-2 this season, with an ERA of 1.21. In 74.2 Innings he was able to strike out 42 batters. He has 4 complete games and one shutout. His career featured a record of 35-21 with an ERA of 3.00. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.

Atlanta's second baseman Argenis Reyes will miss about 6 weeks after being hit by Clayton Kershaw in the 6th inning of the game between Atlanta and Los Angeles (N). After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Hand. Argenis has gone 48 for 133 (.361) this season, hitting one homerun and driving in 16 runs. He has scored 17 runs on his own. He's 4th in the National League in batting!
Tuesday 5/10/2010: Carlos Villanueva quiets San Diego bats with shutout
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' right-hander Carlos Villanueva is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking San Diego on just one hit. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 16th time he has done it in his career. Villanueva (6-1) struck out 8 and walked none, throwing 64 of 97 pitches for strikes. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' The hitting star for St. Louis was third baseman Albert Pujols, he finished with 3 hits in 4 AB, doubling twice, scoring three times and driving in 4 runs. St. Louis improved its record to 25-9, scoring 17 runs on 15 hits.
