Braves 5/9
May is the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review once again.
May 3 the Braves took on the Cardinals of St. Louis on the mound for Atlanta was Bud Smith on the mound for St. Louis was somebody with the first initial B last name Rose. It started off as a pitcher dual and threw the first 3 1/2 innings there was no score, but in the bottom of the fourth, the cards put one on the board. The Braves responded with one in the top of the fifth and then another one in the top of the sixth to take a two to one lead. However, in the bottom of the sixth, the cards tagged Mr. Smith for three earned runs to take a 4 to 2 lead, and that was the eventual final. The Braves had 10 hits to the cards eight but hits don’t win the game if you don’t score runs. Ray picked up his 13th RBI not that it really mattered.
May 4 and May the fourth be with you. Braves again we’re taking on the Cardinals and Roop for the Braves was on the mound facing Perez for the Cardinals. brave stuck first in the second going up one nothing but in the bottom of the third the cardinal scored three. Top of the fourth the Braves rally tied up 33 and that’s where it stayed until the bottom eighth when the Cardinals got there go ahead run and ended up winning 4 to 3 again, the Braves hit the Cardinals last. It really doesn’t matter. Ray got his 24th Steele of the season. For the season group is now three and four with an ERA way above 4.5.
May 6 the Rockies came to town to take on the Braves in Atlanta. Starters were Markham for the Rockies and Smoltz for the Braves. Small Scott rocked and for a change he wasn’t the hard loser. He was just a guy that didn’t get a decision, even though he pitched like shit. Rockies jumped out to one lead in the second piled on three more in the third for four nothing lead. The Braves rallied for two in the bottom third however, the Rockies got one on the top of the fourth and one on the top of the fifth. At that point they were up 6 to 2. Bottom of the sixth the Braves rallied for two to cut the margin to two runs bottom of the seventh. They scored another one to cut the margin to one. the Rockies were looking to finish off the Braves and scored two on the top of the eighth two again stretch the lead to three runs. Somehow the Braves bats rallied and scored three in the bottom of the eighth to tie it up. The ninth had no score. We went into extra innings and after keeping the Rockies off the board in the top top of the 10th. The Braves won it in the bottom. Final score was 9 to 8. The only home for the Braves was by Green and the sixth inning his seventh of the season with one on. The attendance of the game was 64,951 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. The weather was quite nice with clear skies 66° and the wind was blowing left right at 11 miles an hour.
May 7 Rockies are still in town Sabathia on the mound for them harden for the Braves and this one is all about heartbreak. Rich went nine innings only gave up one hit had 12 Kay’s and left the game with the score tied 0 to 0. Sabathia for the Rockies gave up five hits and three walks, and the Braves couldn’t capitalize on that to give Harden a complete game shut out. No this one went into extra innings Where Strickland took it on the chin and lost the game. Braves lost two in extra innings. 64,323 brave fans were on hand to witness the relievers blow the game. the weather was little chilly 58° with clear skies wind blowing left to right at 10 miles an hour .
May 8 again we had Colorado Atlanta with mesh on the mound for Colorado and Bud Smith pitching for the Braves. This again was a pitching duel however Atlanta scored two runs in the bottom of the first and the reality is that’s all they needed to win because Smith only gave up one run in his nine innings. an insurance run and the bottom of the seventh and the final score was three to one. Just about a sellout crowd 44 seats were open out of the 65,000 available at Atlanta Fulton county Stadium and the fans looked on under clear skies with a mild 67° temp and the winds were blowing From left at 17 miles an hour.
The final game of the week was on May 9 with the Dodgers in town against the Braves eat for the Dodgers, took them out to face off against Roop pitch a great game, going eight innings only allowing two runs however valve Arity came on and blew the save and took the loss For his first loss of the season as his ERA balloon to 3.00. Attendance in Atlanta was 61,091 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium watching the game with 59° temperature partly cloudy and the winds blowing in from Center at 8 miles an hour .
On the week, the braves went 2 and 4 on the week and are now 20 and 12 on the season. Many more weeks like this and the Braves will be sunk.
