May is the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review once again.
May 10 Dodgers in Atlanta Smoltz on the mountain for the Braves Kennedy for the Dodgers Dodgers jump out to two nothing lead top of the first Atlanta counters with one run in the bottom of the first one in the bottom of the second one in the bottom of the third and now they’re up 3 to 2/4 and fifth innings are scoreless Atlanta jumps all over the Dodgers in the bottom of the six scoring three more runs to go up to 6 to 2 and that was the final. Smoltz pitched to complete game got the win is now three and two on the season. Ray got his 27th stolen base of the season . attendance watching the game was 60,412 at Fulton County Stadium with the weather being partly cloudy 65° and blowing left right at 8 miles an hour. Old man Smoltz was the player of the game.
May 11, again it’s the Dodgers and Braves Kershaw is on the mound for the Dodgers Atlanta phenom Harden on the mound for the Braves Braves jump out to two nothing lead in the bottom of the first pile on Moore in the bottom of the third, now up five to nothing Pile on three more in the bottom of the 69 Dodgers finally managed to score on Harden and the top of the eighth to make it 9 to 1. Bottom of the eighth the Braves explode for six runs now 14 to one. Dodgers rally and score one lose 14 to 2. The Braves scored 14 runs on 12 hits. Atlanta Sanchez Oita both hit homers. Attendance was 61,066 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. It was beautiful night with clear skies 61° with the wind blowing right at 11 miles an hour.
May 12 Dodgers, still in town, final game of the three games series Atlanta going for the sweep Bud Smith on the mound for the Braves Dempster on the mound for the Dodgers. Atlanta gets out to an early lead in the bottom of the second then the bottom of the fifth they score another run. However, in the sixth seventh and eighth inning, the Dodgers score run each to take a 3 to 2 lead. bottom of the eighth the Braves tied it up. Game went into extra innings and then bottom of the 10th. The Braves score run to complete the three game sweep over the Dodgers . Lee had a homer in the fifth inning. Attendance was 61,069 at Atlanta fold county Stadium with the weather being partly cloudy only 58° wind blowing out the center at 8 miles an hour.
May 13, Atlanta traveled to San Diego route for the Braves, took the mound to faced off with Rodriguez for the Padres. Atlanta came out swinging scoring five in the top of the first and never looked back. They scored runs in the third and fourth to go up seven nothing another two in the sixth to go up nine nothing a run in the seventh to make it 10 nothing And then two more in the top of the eighth to make it 12 nothing. Finally the pottery scored to run in the bottom of the eighth and that’s how the game ended 12 to one. The Braves scored 12 runs on 12 hits. The Padres got a single run on two hits . The Braves had homers by Jennings. Good arrow had to, Oita got one and finally Rob had one.
May 14 game two of Atlanta, San Diego series.. Small took the mound for the Braves de La Russa took the mountain for the Padres. Like the day before and Atlanta jumped out to the huge lead in the top of the first four runs. They had another one and the top of the sixth. Pow tried to Riley in the bottom of the seventh picked up a run to cut the death set to 5 to 1. Top of the ninth Braves scored one more and that was the final 6 to 1. Smoltz went 7 2/3 innings giving up six hits, allowing one earned run getting seven strikeouts. This was Smoltz fourth win of the season.
May 15 final game of the San Diego series and again the Braves looking for sweep. Hard and for the Braves on the mound going against Miller for the Padres. Braves managed to score the top of the first that was all hard and needed but he’d get a little bit more sport than that. Braves scored a run on the top of the fourth another run in the top of the fifth and another run in the top of the eighth to win four to nothing. Harden went a third innings, allowing four hits for his eighth win of the season. He also had 14 strikeouts .
May 16 San Francisco comes to town to take on the Braves. Bud Smith was on the mound for the Braves Santana for the Giants. This game was long. Top of the first San Francisco scored on top of the fourth. They added two more to be up three nothing Braves chipped away in the bottom of the fourth to make it three to one. And that’s the way it stayed till the ninth where the Braves rallied and put two on to tied up. Then the game turned into a classic. Nobody scored in the 10th, the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, Anna was still tied 3 to 3 going into the 17th inning . Braves finally scored in the bottom of the 17th to take a 4 to 3 win over the Giants. the game lasted an astounding almost 6 1/2 hours. The 64,327 fans that came out to Atlanta Fulton county. Stadium had no idea that they were going to spend the better part of the night into the wee hours Waiting to see who would win the game. At least the weather was nice. It was 71° partly cloudy with the wind blowing left to ride at 8 miles an hour.
May 17, John, still in town with Kane for the Giants going against route for the Braves. Atlanta jumped out to a 21 lead in the third added one in the sixth however, for some reason since all the Braves relievers were tired, left Ryan and he fell apart in the eighth and in the ninth giving up four runs over the two innings and the Giants won 5 to 3.60,422 were on hand to see the Braves lose at Atlanta county stadium this fine Tuesday evening. The temperature was 63. It was cloudy and the winds were blowing right at 8 miles an hour.
On the week, the braves went 7 and 1 on the week and are now 27 and 14 on the season. Many more weeks like this and the Braves will be sunk.
