May is the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review once again.
May 18, the Giants still in town against the Braves Billingsley, for the Giants, on the mound, facing Smoltz. Bottom, the first braves score, won another one in the bottom, and second, and another one in the bottom of the third. Top of the fourth, the Giants scored to cut the lead to three to one bottom of the fifth braves scored another one to go up for one and that’s how the game ended 4 to one Smoltz pitch the complete game, allowing just three hits and one run while picking up nine Kay’s to improve his record to five and two on the season. For the Braves knocked out a homer and the second inning his 10,000 the season. Sedeno, Guerrero and Jennings each had a stolen base. Even with their three stolen bases they also had three runners caught stealing, so they are actually only 50% on their ability of steel bases. The cool 58° with clear skies and the wind blowing left or right must’ve kept some fans at home as only 59,770 came out to land fold counting stadium to watch. The Braves beat the Giants .
May 19 giant still in town Harding for the Braves on the mound going against Lincom for the Giants. Braves scored two in the bottom of the second and that was all the scoring there was it was a hell of a pitching duel. And picked up a complete game shut out With only allowing four hits and getting 10 Kay’s and picking up his ninth win. Ojeda fight all the offense the Braves needed with his left homer with one on he knocked in both runs. Was a beautiful day with the temperature at 71° wind is blowing from Center at 12 miles an hour kept the ball in the park. Probably helped the bad pictures out that night and the skies were clear . Attendance was only 59,760 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium.
May 20 the Braves are now in San Francisco to take on the Giants. Bud Smith on the mound for the Braves going against Santana for the Giants. Atlanta jumped out to three lead and the top of the first. But then Bud gave up runs and the bottom of the first and the second and then the big one gave up three more in the bottom of the fourth so now the Giants were up 5 to 3. Top of the seventh braves scored one run top of the eighth they scored another tie it up 555. Game went into extra innings and on top of the 11th Braves score to run, and thankfully they were able to blank the Giants when they came up in the bottom of the 11th to get the wind 6 to 5. Sanchez Guerrero and Green all had home runs for the Braves again. The Braves had three runners, Steeler bases and three runners get caught.
May 21, another Giants Braves game. This one was a wild one with Roop for the Braves going against Kane for the Giants. Braves score top of the first Giants rally with three runs in the bottom to go up 3 to 1 and the Giants added another one in the bottom of the third to go up for one braves scored one in the top of the fourth cut deposit 42 scored two more in the top of the fifth to tie it up for four then they pounded the Giants in the top of the 66 to be up 10 to 4. Giants bats were not gonna back down. They scored three in the bottom of the six to cut the deficit to three scored two more in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to one scored another one in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game up 10 to 10. That’s how it was when it went into extra innings braves and score anything in the top of the 10th but the Giants did in the bottom of the 10th. They walked off with 11 to 10. , Lee and Green all hit Home runs for the Braves. Braves had three stolen bases, and only one person caught stealing tonight.
May 22, Smoltz for the Braves Acevedo for the Giants. Braves took an early one nothing lead but on the bottom of the fourth Smoltz gave up to and then the Giants had one in the fifth and one in the sixth and they were 4 to 2. Braves tried to rally in the top of the eighth going to run cut the deficit to run. However, that’s the way it ended 4 to 3. Smoltz was a hard loser and now is five and three on the season. Green had another run for his 11th of the season.
May 23, the final game of the week for the Braves, and again against the Giants. Start trying to stay off a sweep by the Giants in San Fran. Billingsley, for the Giants was on the mountain against the Harden for the Braves. If anybody could stop the two game slide, it was hard. Didn’t start off promising and gave up two runs and bottom of the Giants were up to nothing. Braves rallied for a run in the top of the third and then went ahead to two in the top of the fifth. After the blip in the second inning, hard and locked in and that was it. He went eight innings only allowing those two runs in the second in and getting seven Kay’s and improving his recorded tan and oh. Valverde came on for his of the season.
On the week, the braves went 4 and 2 on the week and are now 31 and 16 on the season.
