June is the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review once again.
June 2, Atlanta still in Philadelphia. Bud Smith going for the Braves and Ben sheets for the Phillies. Philly struck first and the bottom of the first scoring a run. Then they struck again in the bottom of the fifth with two runs the Braves tried to rally on the top of the seventh going to runs cutting the lead to 3 to 2, but then in the bottom of the eighth, the Phillies, tacked on two more. That was the final 5 to 2 Phillies over the Braves. of the five runs, the Phillies scored only three were earned and now Bud Smith’s record is dropped five and three on the season. Sanchez accounted for all of the Braves scoring With his two Ron Homer in the seventh inning. San picked up two stolen bases, and now now has 22 on the season.
June 3, game, three of the four game series between the Braves and the Phillies. Ryan Roop for the Braves were on the mound going against Cole Hamels for the Phillies. Cole got a complete game shut out because the Braves couldn’t touch him only mustard four hits. The Phillies only had five hits, but they managed to turn those into one in the bottom of the second one in the bottom of the third. It was a two to nothing win for the Phillies and now the Phillies were up two games to one in the four game series .
June 4, the final game of the four game series between the Braves and the Phillies. John Smoltz was going for the Braves going against young for the Phillies. This game was a wild one. Braves scored in the top of the first the Phillies tied up in the bottom of the third Braves scored one in the top of the fourth Phillies, tied up in the bottom of the fourth Braves scored three in the top of the fifth Phillies scored one in the bottom of the fifth at this point it was 5 to 3. In the bottom of the sixth the Phillies scored another one to cut it to 5 to 4. Top of the seventh the Braves, tacked on two more to make it 7 to 4. Then they got another one on the top of the eighth making it 8 to 4. The Phillies rallied in the bottom of the eighth scoring two to cut into a two run deficit. Smoltz gave up all six runs, but got the wind improving to six and four on the season. Valveri came on in the ninth and locked the game down, picking up his 14th of the season . Lee Sanchez and Jennings all went yard with homers in the game. Lee and Sanchez all picked up stolen bases.
June 6, Chicago comes to Atlanta for three games series. Morton, on the mound for the Cubs going against Harden of the Braves. Braves picked up a run in the bottom of the second and that was all hard and needed, though he got another run in the bottom of the seventh. It was a two to nothing shut out. His brought hard to 13 and oh on the season Val came on for his 15th. Both runs that the Braves scored were solo homers Creo got the first one and the second inning and Aaron Boone got the second of the two in the seventh inning. Harden held the Cubs to three hits over eight innings . 57,831 came out to see Harden beat the Cubs at Atlanta Fulton county stadium. It was a rainy day 76° with wind blowing left to right at 9 miles an hour. Rich Harden of course was the player of the game.
June 7, game two of the Cubs versus the Braves series. Adam Hart on the mound for the Cubs going against Bud Smith. It was a pitcher bottom of the fifth when Atlanta scored three runs. The Cubs rallied in the top of the sixth, cutting the margin to 3 to 2, but that was the end of the scoring. San and Renteria each picked up a stolen base. Bud Smith went 7 1/3 inning, allowing five hits, three walks and two runs for six win on the season. Hannah Hanan came in hit the third third of the inning, got a hold and gave away to Valverde. Valverde pitched one in a third innings, picking up his 16th of the season. 60,403 people came out to Atlanta Fulton county stadium to see the Braves win 3 to 2 over the Cubs. It was a nice night clear skies 72° with the wind blowing out to Center at 10 miles an hour.
June 8, the final game of the week and the final game of the Cubs series. Ryan Roop was on the mound for the Braves facing James of Chicago. Struck with one in the top of the second, then they added a second run in the top of the fourth and another run in the top of the sixth. The Braves rallied in the bottom of the sixth two runs to cut the deficit to only one run and then they tied it up in the bottom of the eighth. Game went into extra innings and then the Braves pitch fell in the top of the 12th, giving up four runs with the final beans 7 to 3 and a loss. So much for the sweep of the Cubs. 63,002 fans came out to witness the collapse of haunted Braves levers. it was a clear sky night at 70° with the wind blowing in from right at 9 miles an hour. Guero had the only home run for the Braves, a solo shot in the eighth inning. San and Galo each picked up a stolen base.
On the week, the braves went 3 and 3 on the week and are now 40 and 21 on the season.
