The American League Player of the Week award goes to Miguel Cabrera, Detroit's starting first baseman. Miguel was on fire, hitting .563 with 0 HR and 4 RBI. Jose Vidro from San Francisco wins his 9th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Jose went 8 for 16 (.500), while hitting 0 HR and collecting 4 RBI. Jose has gone 96 for 299 (.321) this season, hitting 13 taters and driving in 50 runs. He has scored 53 runs on his own. Friday 7/1/2010: Morris and Park receive Pitcher of the Month award
The best month of June in the American League certainly had Detroit's right-hander Matt Morris, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. His record of 5-0 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. In 38 innings of work he allowed just 24 hits while striking out 46, compiling an ERA of just 0.95. Matt got two complete game shutouts as well! In 16 starts this year Matt struck out 121 batters in 111 innings of work. His ERA is 3.00, his record 11-5. He has 3 complete games and 2 shutouts. He's 5th in the American League in wins! It's the 6th time that the National League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Arizona's pitcher Chan Ho Park. Zimmerman has walked 33 times this year and posts a .398 OBP. While batting .327, 93 for 284, he has driven in 53 runs. He's 8th in the American League in batting! Atlanta's first baseman Vladimir Guerrero had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Batter of the Month. Vladimir went 33 for 88 (.375), while hitting 6 HR and collecting 18 RBI. Vladimir has gone 82 for 286 (.287) this season, hitting 11 taters and driving in 37 runs. He has scored 39 runs on his own.
Wednesday 6/29/2010: Garret Anderson (STL) will miss 4-5 weeks
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' players were scared when they had to watch Garret Anderson suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against New York (N). He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Anderson will probaby miss 4-5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Ulna. Surgery will be performed next week. He has hit 6 homeruns while batting .272 this season. His 81 hits and 26 walks add up to a .334 on-base percentage.
Tuesday 6/28/2010: John Smoltz celebrates 500th win
ATLANTA - Atlanta's right-hander John Smoltz already had some highlights in his career, and today he added a historic one as he picked up his 500th career win. He struck out 2 and walked 4 earned runs. Over 7.1 innings he allowed 4 earned runs and 6 hits. His career features a 2.14 ERA, along with 5617 K's in 6092 innings. 'You dream about that as a kid, but when you reach such a milestone it's hard to believe. Fantastic.' He set a career high with 28 wins in 2002. Smoltz won 20 or more games a season 14 times. The Hall of Fame is already waiting for this great player.
Monday 6/27/2010: Jack Cust slams 3 HR
ARIZONA - Jack Cust was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered St. Louis to a 8-1 win over Arizona by homering three times. A pitch from Odalis Perez in the 4th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 394 feet from home plate in left field. A 416 foot drive to right-center marked his 2nd bomb, a solo homerun off Odalis Perez in the 8th inning. Number 3 in the 9th inning, a shot estimated at 355 feet, cleared the wall in left field. Overall he finished with 4 hits in 5 AB, scoring FOUR runs and collecting 4 RBI. His homerun total this year is 18, along with 52 RBI. On 5/25/2010, Adrian Beltre was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game.

LOS ANGELES (A) - Chicago (A)'s right-hander Dustin McGowan is a really great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff while making history, blanking Los Angeles (A) on no hits. McGowan (6-1) struck out 6 and issued 1 BB, throwing 61 of 98 pitches for strikes. 'Today I just felt great. I had a good feeling while warming up, and I knew something special was about to happen.' Andy Phillips helped McGowan at the plate, he finished with 3 hits in 5 AB, homering once, scoring 2 runs. The final score of the game was 6-0.
Monday 6/27/2010: Mike B. Young collects 2000th hit against Boston
SEATTLE - Seattle's shortstop Mike B. Young joined some elite company today, collecting his 2000th career hit! With one out in the 3rd inning, Mike B. drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. In 10 years of big league action so far, Mike B. has compiled a batting average of .314, along with 313 homeruns and 1054 RBI. 'Baseball is a great game, and adding something to it's history is smething I've always wanted. What a great day!'

CLEVELAND - 'You know, in batting practice I didn't really feel that comfortable about my stroke today, but baseball is more than hitting. Then, when you're not trying to force a hit, you slug them in droves,' says Evan Longoria after his 5 hit game, which Toronto won 6-0 against Cleveland. Number 1 in the 2nd inning, a shot estimated at 398 feet, cleared the wall in left field. A pitch from Tony Saunders in the 3rd inning left his bat for a RBI double. His 5th hit was a RBI double off Tony Saunders in the 9th inning. He collected singles in the 5th and in the 8th . Evan scored 3 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .299.
Friday 6/24/2010: Chan Ho Park pitches 2-hit shutout against Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - Arizona's right-hander Chan Ho Park is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Milwaukee on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 41st time he has done it in his career. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Park (10-5) struck out 9 and walked 2, throwing 71 of 114 pitches for strikes. Arizona's leftfielder Paul Goldschmidt finished with 2 hits in 5 AB, homering once, and driving in 3 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Park. The final score of the game was 5-0.
Friday 6/24/2010: Boston's Buehrle out for 7 weeks
BOSTON - When it rains, it pours. Boston's southpaw Mark Buehrle will not pitch for at least 7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Texas where he left the field in the 5th inning. Buehrle was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Tricep Muscle. His ERA of 2.55 helped him to a 3-1 record this year. He struck out 18 and walked 5 in 42.1 innings.
