July is the time of year now Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review once again.
July 13, the Mets in New York with the Braves visiting. Smoltz on the mound for the Braves, taking on cornhole for the Mets. The Mets jumped all over the Braves in the bottom of the fourth scoring, four runs, and then tacked on one in the bottom of the seventh go up five to nothing. The Braves tried to make a game of it in the top of the ninth score in four runs last all they did was prolong the game for a little bit longer as they walked out the loser. Smoltz went the entire distance, taking the loss. he’s now nine and eight on the season With an ERA closing in on four. Good thing he’s retiring soon as he’s just not effective anymore. Ray is got a steel for his fur third of the season.
July 14, lemon 714. Game two of the Mets Braves series with Dickie on the mound for the Braves and Glover on the mound for the Mets. It was scoreless through the first three innings, and finally in the top of the fourth, the Braves scored a run. The Braves lead was short-lived because in the bottom of the fifth Dick, he gave up four runs to allow the Mets to take a four to one lead that the Braves trimmed to 4 to 2 in the top of the sixth. Top of the seventh Mets scored another one to go up 5 to 2. Top of the ninth again the Braves scored four runs, but this time it was enough to take the game from the Mets to give them the win 6 to 5. Dickie got the win even though he pitched like crap. Valveri came on to get the save his 24th of the season.
July 15, game three of the Mets Braves series. Harden on the mound for the Braves Madrid on the mound for the Mets. Braves scored in the top of the first one run. Mets countered with one in the bottom of the second Braves scored two more in the top of three, and that was all they would need as the Mets last score was one in the bottom of the fifth to cut it to 3 to 2. The Braves tacked on two and the eighth and the ninth to finish the game with a 7 to 2 lead. Harden God is 20th Of the season.
July 16, this fine Saturday found the Reds visiting Atlanta. Bud Smith was on the mound for the Braves going against Bullington for the Reds. Braves jumped out in the first with the two run lead then tacked on two more in the bottom of the third three more in the bottom of the fifth one more in the bottom of the seventh, and they were up eight to nothing and cruising. The Reds managed to attack on two runs in the top of the ninth however, it was way too little way too late as Bud Smith picked up his 12th one of the season. Both Lee and Ojeda hit homers in the game and the Braves picked up two more stolen bases on the season. Attendance that night was 64,309 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. With temperature of 75° however it was raining with the wind blowing out to right at 8 miles an hour. There was a 48 minute rain delay in the second inning.
July 17 the final day of the two game set against the Reds in Atlanta had Ryan Roop on the mound for the Braves going against Carpenter for the Reds. Carpenter only last one and third inning, giving up four hits, allowing four runs and three earned in that span as the Braves jumped out to a six to nothing lead after two innings and the fourth they tacked on three more, in the top of the fifth the red scored run to cut it to 9 to 1. However the Braves pounded four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take it to 13 to one. Top of the sixth the Braves allowed another cutting it to 13 to 2 but in the seventh and eighth innings they added a combine three runs for final of a 16 to 2 win over the Reds 16 runs on 20 hits. Surprisingly the Braves only hit one homer in the game. rays got stolen his league leading 45th of the season got his 39th Sanchez had his 42nd and Guerrero had his 20th. Atlanta jumped out to a two lead in the bottom of the first added three more in the bottom of the third and another one in the bottom of the fourth And Smoltz pitched well enough for that to be enough transport to give him the win and eventually the Braves triumph with the final score of 7 to 3. Smoltz with the distance giving up three runs over nine innings. Hit a 16th over the season with one on. Reyes packed on another stolen base to increase his lead in the league to 46 on the season. With the top two teams in the NL East, battling it out 63,043 fans came out to watch the game at Atlanta Fulton county Stadium on a gorgeous clear sky night with game time of 77° and the wind blowing out to Center at 11 miles an hour.
