Braves 8/23
August is still the time of year Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review once again.
August 17 Miami is in town to take on the Braves. John Smoltz took them out for the Braves going against Web for the Marlins. This was not John’s finest day ever as he got pounded and pounded hard. The only thing the Braves did well was Centennial hit a homer, but the final was 9 to 1. 61,066 fans came out to see the Braves get slaughtered. It was wonderful evening clear skies 74° with the wind blowing right at 16 miles an hour. But boy were the fans disappointed, and what happened at Atlanta, Fulton County Stadium.
August 18, game two of the Miami Atlanta series. Jimenez was on the mound for the Marlins going against route for the Braves. And again the Braves just got the poop pounded out of them. Miami romp for a 12 to 4 win. Jennings hit a home before the Braves, a two run shot in the fourth. And at that point the Braves were up four to one but then all hell broke loose. Jennings had a couple steals also had one and Renteria had one. Again the fans at Atlanta Foley county Stadium were disappointed all 61,069 at how poorly the Braves played. The weather was nice with the wind blowing left right at 8 miles an hour clear skies and a nice 76 game time temperature.
August 19 the final game of the Braves Marlins series. Wang was going for the Marlins against Harden for the Braves. The Braves desperately needed to hold here less they get swept by the Marlins. The game was scoreless after nine innings Harden pitched the equivalent of a complete game shut out, but the Braves bats did nothing to help him. Finally in the top of the 10th Miami score run and the Braves were able to rally and tied up. Then in the bottom of the 13th the Braves finally scored another run to win the game 2 to one. 64,963 fans came out to Atlanta Fulton county stadium on a partly cloudy night with the gametime temperature of 76°. They had no idea that they were in for a marathon game that lasted almost 5 hours. Lee who tied up the game in the 10th solo shot. All total the Braves had Two stolen bases, but they erased a ton of bass runners with five runners getting thrown out. Reyes is the one that finally won the game for the Braves driving in a run and the the bottom of the 13th.
August 20, Braves versus the Mets. Bud Smith on the mound for the Braves going against mattress for the Mets. After having absolutely no offense for the previous three games, the Braves bats finally showed up. They quickly jumped out to two nothing lead in the first inning, added one in the second And it stayed nothing until the fifth when they exploded for six runs. The Mets cut it to 9 to 1 in the bottom of the seventh and the Braves scored three in the top of the eighth and then just slaughtered the Mets with eight runs on the top of the ninth. Sanchez, Lee, and Rob all had homers. Picked up a stolen base for us and leading 66th of the season as Dad got arrow and grain.
August 21, game two of the Mets Braves series. Our a dickie was on the mound for the Braves going against heron for the Mets. Braves jumped out to two nothing leading top the first added four more and the top of the second but the Mets rallied for three in the bottom of the second so it was 6 to 3 at that point. Each team scored a run in the fourth and the Mets tacked on another one in the bottom of the fifth and that was all there was for the scoring in the game. Dickie won eight innings giving up five runs but only four of them earned. Valveri came on for the ninth and got us 33rd save of the season. Sanchez and Guerrero each hit a homer. Ray picked up his 67th stolen base and recta swipe two.
August 22, game three of the Braves met series and the Braves were going for this week. Smolts was on the mountain show facing Conejo. The Mets scored first in the bottom of the sixth and it stayed that way until the top of the eighth when the Braves finally put two runs on the board. Valveri came on to pitch the ninth inning and got his 34th save of the season. Smoltz really redeemed himself from the previous start. He won eight innings and only gave up a single run to get his 14th win of the season. Smoltz has been a bit Jekyll and Hyde this season, but has had numerous quality starts.
On the week, the braves went 4 and 2 and are now 89 and 37 on the season.
