Wednesday 9/7/2010: Craig Hansen (LAA) will miss 6 weeks
LOS ANGELES (A) - Los Angeles (A) is without its right-hander Craig Hansen for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Luke Scott in a game against Seattle. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Los Angeles (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Hansen had suffered a Ruptured Elbow Ligament. Opposing players hit .270 against Craig this season. While posting an ERA of 4.45 he went 0-2 in 0 starts, fanning 54 and walking 9 hitters.
Monday 9/5/2010: Player of the Week honors go to Martinez and Perez
The American League's best player of the week was Cleveland's Victor Martinez, who wins the award for the 4th time in his career. Victor pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .632 with 3 HR and 11 RBI while slugging 1.158. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Odalis Perez, one of Arizona's best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.06 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. In 30 starts this year Odalis struck out 252 batters in 231.1 innings of work. His ERA is 2.30, his record 16-8. He has 8 complete games and 3 shutouts.
Saturday 9/3/2010: A.J. Pierzynski drills 5 hits
MINNESOTA - A.J. Pierzynski saw the ball really well, leading Toronto to a 20-2 win over Minnesota. His five hits thrilled his teammates and coaches, and A.J. seemed happy as well after the game. His 3rd hit, a solo homerun off Matt Daley in the 7th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. A pitch from Matt Daley in the 9th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 396 feet from home plate in left field. He had singles in the 4th , in the 6th inning and in the 7th (one RBI). A.J. did drive in 4 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He is hitting .285 this season, with 9 HR and 46 RBI.
Friday 9/2/2010: Johan Santana out for 4-5 weeks
SAN FRANCISCO - When it rains, it pours. San Francisco's left-hander Johan Santana will not pitch for at least 4-5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (N) where he left the field in the 8th inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle. His ERA of 3.09 helped him to a 14-9 record this year. He struck out 222 and walked 72 in 215.2 innings. Johan has pitched 4 shutouts and 8 complete games.
