September is still the time of year Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review once again.
September 9, St. Louis is in town to take on the Braves and a two game series. Roses on the mound for the Cardinals going against Bud Smith for the Braves. While this was a tight game it was mainly the Braves that were doing what needed to be done. St. Louis took an early lead in the bottom of the second, however, the Braves then went on to score one in the fourth one and the fifth one and the sixth and one in the seventh. Valverde came on in the ninth shut down the Cardinals for his 37th save of the season. With the win Bud Smith became a 20 game winner again. Renteria picked up his 39th season Steele of the season. 63,007 fans came out to Atlanta Fulton county stadium to watch. The Braves win 4 to 1. Bud Smith was the player of the game on a night where the game time temperature was a cool 62° on a partly cloudy night with the wind blowing left right at 10 miles an hour .
September 10 game two of the two game series against the Cardinals. Arroyo was on the mountain for the Cardinals going against Ryan Rupp for the Braves. First inning was nothing but fireworks, St. Louis scored two in the top of the first and braves scored three in the bottom of the first. Braves attack on four more over the next two innings. Cardinals, tacked on a meaningless run in the top of the seventh and the Braves do the same and the bottom of the eighth. Atlanta had no homers and no stolen bases, but they managed to get 14 hits and get eight runs out of it. Defense on both sides was sloppy as no out as the cards had two errors and the Braves had three. Roop went the distance giving up three runs two of them earned on 118 pitches. 61,057 people came out to see this game at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium on a cool partly cloudy night with the gametime temperature of 63° wind blowing out to right at 10 miles an hour.
September 11, San Diego came to town to play the Braves. John Smoltz was on the mound for the Braves going against Kim for the Padres. Seem to be like a gimme going away present to Smoltz as he didn’t pitch that great however, the potteries were just throwing up, batting practice to the Braves. The Braves hit three homers Sanchez got one two run shot in the third inning, followed by a two run shot by Green also in the third inning, and Oita got one in the second inning there was also two run shot. Surprisingly, none of the eight runs, the Braves scored in the first inning, came on a homer. Reyes got his 75th stolen base of the season. The Braves scored 17 runs on 17 hits and won the game 17 to 4. 63,031 fans came out to Atlanta Fulton County Stadium to see the slaughter of the Padres on a partly cloudy night with a gametime temperature of 67° and the wind blowing left right at 9 miles an hour.
September 12,. Pottery still in town and while it wasn’t quite the slaughter game one was it wasn’t pretty easy either. Ayres was on the mound for the Braves going against Rodriguez for the Padres. Padres jumped out early won nothing Braves tied it up in the bottom of the second 11 then they scored two in the bottom of the fourth two in the bottom of the fifth five in the bottom of the sixth. Chris Lee hit two homers in the game for a 16th and 17th home of the season. Ray is got a sole base along with Sanchez and Renteria. September 13, the final game of the three game series against the Padres in Atlanta. The Braves were going for a sweep, and they would not be denied. Harden was on the mound for the Braves going against Miller for the Padres. It was a tale of two pitchers. Harden, with the best record in the NL at 26 and three, facing, perhaps the worst record in, all of baseball Miller being 18 on the season with an 8.29 ERA. Atlanta wasted no time jumping out on a lead against Miller scoring four in the bottom of the first another two in the bottom of the second so that they were up six to nothing And that was a more than enough offense to see him through the game but they weren’t done. They tacked on another three in the bottom of the fifth. The Padres rallied and struck fear into their hearts when they scored a run in the top of the sixth ruining Hardins chance at a complete game shut out. The Benville brave batters scored two more in the bottom of the seventh and three more in the bottom and eighth and didn’t get a chance to go to bed and the bottom of the ninth because 14 to one was enough to win the game. General hit his 24th homer of the season. It was a two run shot and the fifth inning. Reyes, Boone, and Renteria had stolen bases. 64,957 people came out and saw the slaughter at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium tonight with a cool, 67° gametime temperature on a partly cloudy night with the wind blowing left to right at 8 miles an hour. Wade Miller for the Padres increased his streak of losses now to a span of 44 consecutive decisions without a win. On his career he is three and 66. This has to be some kind of record. Over the last two seasons combined he Is Oh and 41.
September 14, after sweeping the Padres Atlanta, headed to the desert to take on the diamondbacks. Bud Smith was on the mound for the Braves Perez for the Diamondbacks. Braves were up to nothing but faltered in the bottom of the six Arizona tied up. Bud Smith got no decision, and valve. Arity came in on the 10th inning to lose the game to the dime backs. Sanchez got a solo run shot in the first inning off of Perez and rent. Rhea had a stolen base.
September 15, Atlanta, still against the diamondbacks had Ryan Roop on the mound for the Braves going against park for the D backs. Jennings, Guerrero, and Oita all hit Home runs. Guerrero actually had two home runs in the game . Jennings and Lee both had stolen bases.
