Philadelphia Phillies 2010 August Report
Record: 25-3…
Home: 13-1
Road: 12-2
Positive Team Stat: Runs Scored–692 (6th)
Notes: The offense really is clicking on all cylinders now. We had a whopping four guys with an OPS of 1.000+. Simply bonkers. Granderson led the way (more on him later), but the rest of the bats were tremendous. We now lead baseball in walks, we are fifth in dingers, and seventh in stolen bases. This is truly a fun group once they got it going. I’m excited to see if the offense can get it done in the playoffs when it matters most.
Negative Team Stat: None–NA (NA)
Notes: Man, when you win 25 of 28 games, is there really a negative thing to even point at? These guys were simply awesome, and I think it would be extremely nit-picky of me to even try and point out something that isn’t going well after a month like that!
Major League Spotlight
Best Hitter: RF Curtis Granderson
August Stats: .443/.500/.764/1.264 OPS 10 2Bs 3 3Bs 6 HRs 18 RBIs 24 Runs 12 BBs 6 Ks
Notes: The Grandy Man! What a damn month, and frankly it was about damn time! Granderson nearly had twenty extra base hits (19)...He scored 24 times, and knocked in 18 guys as well. He also possessed a strong 12:6 Walk:Strikeout ratio as well. He had an on base of .500. He swiped a ton of bases I’d imagine (it’s annoying they don’t display that on the monthly stat page. Anyway, our offense goes as Grandy goes. Kemp is always going to do his thing, but it’s up to Granderson to take us to the next level.
Best Pitcher: SP Chris Young
August Stats: 7 Starts 7-0 1.22 ERA 51.2 IP 34 Hs 7 ERs 4 BBs 46 Ks
Notes: Chris Young was simply incredible. He started seven games and won all seven of his starts. WHIP was dominant, and almost struck out a batter per inning. Chris Young is just simply one of the best pitchers in baseball, and he’s on an even better contract. One of our very best and absolutely one of the very best in this entire league!
Minor League Spotlight
Prospect: 1B Clint Robinson (AA)
Notes: Clint! He might never play a major league game with us, but he sure can hit Double A pitching! An on-base percentage over .400 with nearly thirty doubles and nearly twenty dingers. He had a season! Looking forward to him doing his thing there again!
