Braves 9/22
September is still the time of year Braves fans, to continue coming back to the ballpark Lets look at the week in review once again.
September 16, the Rockies in to play the Braves. Small was on the mound for the Braves going against Markham for the Rockies. Early in the second inning, Smoltz went down injured and had to leave the game. Atlanta scored a run in the bottom of the second And then again and the bottom of the eighth. That was all the scoring in the game the amazing Braves, bullpen of Strickland, Hanrahan and Valverde pitched 7 2/3 inning, giving up two hits one walk and no runs. Strickland got the win, and Valverde got to save his 38th of the season. Chris Lee actually gave the Braves all the scoring they needed with his soul shot in the second inning. The game was played in front of an ammo sellout crowd 11 more and it would’ve been the full 65,000 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. The night sky was cool at game time 69° with clear skies and an 8 mile an hour wind blowing left to right. Carlos Lee solo shot made him the player of the game.
September 17, the second game of the two game series had Sabathia facing Myers for the Braves. Myers pitched OK however, he did allow four runs in seven innings, which is not a strategies. Poor success. The Braves bats struck early propelling them to an early three to nothing lead, however Myers in the sixth inning unraveled and allowed the Rockies to take a 4 to 3 lead. Braves rally to tied up. They just couldn’t hold on. The Braves had three stolen bases in the game. They actually had more hits than the Rockies out hit them 9 to 5 however, they lost the game 5 to 4. 63,018 people came out to Atlanta Fulton county stadium to see the game. Weather was pretty mild with the gametime temperature of 74° on a partly cloudy night.
September 18, the Phillies came to town. With the NL East crown on the line RA Dick, he took them out for the Braves, and he threw a complete game shut out, causing Gonzalez for the Phillies to take a loss and fall to 20 and six on the season. The Braves scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning and that was the only time any scoring happened as the Braves won four to nothing. Guillermo opened up the scoring with a solo shot. Errol, Lee, and Jennings all had stolen bases in the game. Reyes, however, was caught two times, trying to extend his national league lead. Surprisingly only 62,373 fans came out to Atlanta Fulton county stadium to see the top two teams in the NL Duke get out. Game time was pretty cool at 63° on a clear sky night with the wind blowing left right at 11 miles an hour.
September 19, game, two of the two game series again between the Braves and the Phillies. Ryan Roop was on the mound for the Braves going against hill for the Pirates. The Braves open up the scoring in the bottom of the first the Phillies scored two in the top of the second. Bottom the second the Braves opened up a can of whoop ass on hill chasing him from the game after scoring seven runs in the one and 2/3 innings that he was in the game. Braves tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and the final score was 9 to 4 in favor the Braves. Roop got the win and it was his 20th of the season. Oita picked up a homer and Sanchez, Lee, Renteria and Green all had stolen bases. again the crowd was kind of thin for the top two teams in the NL East, as only 61,716 fan showed up to Atlanta Fulton county Stadium to see the Braves win 9 to 4.
September 21, Atlanta traveled to Arizona take on the diamondbacks. Smolts was on the mound for the Braves going against park for the diamondbacks. Smoltz again did not have a good day as he gave up six runs and 7 1/3 innings. Braves bats were held in check by park as they only picked up three runs on seven hits. Wynter hit a homer and the only person who picked up a stolen base was Guerrero his 30 second of the season.
September 22, game, two of the two game series against the Diamondbacks. After losing 6 to 3 the night before the Braves were hoping for a little better night, as Myers was on the mound for the Braves going against Lara for the Diamondbacks. Atlanta scored a run in the second and third to be up two to nothing. However, Myers quivered and gave up three in the bottom of the third to allow the diamondbacks The lead. Top of the fourth the Braves scored six runs which was enough to put the game out of reach. It got a little closer as Arizona picked up a run in the fifth, the sixth the seventh inning and at that point it was 9 to 6. Top of the eighth however, the Braves doubled their score and scored nine runs to put the game out of each and the final was 18 to 7. Myers for the Braves picked up the win and increased his record to four and oh. fell to 19 and six on the season.Sanchez and Renteria hit a homer in the game and Reyes picked up a stolen base for his 78th of the season.
On the week, the braves went 4 and 2 and are now 109 and 44 on the season.
