General Notes
Owners are responsible for maintaining their team's own income and profitability. Given that there is no salary cap, teams may spend as much as they please but the goal is to have a positive cash balance at the end of the season. A team may lose money in any given season so long as they have cash on hand available to overcome any financial shortfalls and, therefore, remain in the black.
Financial Probation
Any team that ends up with a negative cash balance after the File Flip will go on probation for that season, where they will be unable to take on any additional salary through trades or waivers. Teams may have free agency monies available, and are not restricted from signing free agents if they so choose; however, note that if the team has negative cash and chooses to spend money in free agency, it means that getting out of the red will be made that much more difficult. Teams may be removed from probation immediately upon correcting their financial situation. Should an team be placed on probation for a second consecutive season or three (3) times in a five (5) season span with a negative cash balance after the file flip, the team's owner may be subject to termination.
Ticket Prices
Teams may set their ticket prices between $1 and $20 with $10 being typical. Be careful not to raise it too high as it may turn away fans; set it too low and the team may not be getting enough revenue.
Promotion Days
Teams can schedule promotion days for home games within the boundaries as set forth by the game to help boost attendance and possibly raise (or drop if the team loses that day!) fan interest. The higher the fan interest, the greater attendance will be, the more money the team can spend.
Luxury Taxes
Luxury Taxes are not contemplated at this time but will be considered once the league expands to 20 teams.
Playoff Revenue
Due to a known bug in OOTP5 regarding playoff revenues, the Commissioner will apply 750K in cash for each home game. After the File Flip, the Commissioner will correct and post each team's cash balance, prior to posting the file and league pages.
Financial Limitations
Each team's front office settings will have a fixed Market Size per Commissioner's determination of TV Market Sizes. Additionally, the Commissioner will correct the following setting/ratings each season:
- Fan Loyalty: Minimum setting of "Average"
- Fan Interest: Minimum rating of "40"
- Merchandising Revenue: Minimum of $10M and a maximum of $15M
- Local Television Deal: Minimum of $15M and a maximum of $20M
- National Television Deal: Minimum of $15M and a maximum of $25M
- As noted in the OOTP5 League Settings, there is a in-game cash cap of $50M.
- Teams may profit no more than $25M in any given season. Playoff revenues do not count towards the cap.
- Excess cash and profit, as related to above, are automatically transferred to the Stadium Fund.
- There is no limit in the Stadium Fund.
- Teams can convert Stadium Fund cash to cash on hand but at a 5:1 ratio, meaning if you transfer 50M Stadium Fund cash, it will be worth 10M in cash.
TV Market Size
- OOTP5 has 10 market sizes from non-existent to HUGE, but we have only used the middle 6: Small, Below Average, Average, Above Average, Good, Big
- In 1999, we are making adjustments to reduce the range of 6 slots to 4: Average, Above Average, Good, Big. Most teams other than those who are already Big have already been boosted.
- In 2000, we will further reduce the range to 3: Above Average, Good, Big. Again, about half of the teams will again be boosted.
