Well it was my first draft and I moved pick 11 but I think it was still very important as a new GM to pay attention and figure out wtf is going on. I’ll take some time to dive in below as long as my plane wifi continues to work.
Lottery Picks
1 - LAA - RF Mookie Betts
2 - NYA - SP Jose Fernandez
3 - KCR - SS Trea Turner
4 - MIN - SP Brandon Woodruff via SDG
5 - MIL - SP Blake Snell
6 - MIN - SP Tyler Glasnow
I feel like these top picks made sense. Based on the value I have seen with vets in the trade market I was a bit surprised this top 3 included 2/3 hitters but both guys look awesome. Mookie at just 18 is a triple brill with A range in RF and steals. My limited knowledge tells me that he is a sure fire all around player. Imagine pairing him with trout? Wow. I’m curious to follow his career and see how long it takes him to 10s in various stats. Hitting and homers for sure one day. Jose (RIP) is a great pick. Looking like an ace already with 4 Brills at 18 the Cuban prospect is aleady rated higher on the Yankees than Sonny Gray. I’m learning the value of loyalty so it’s great to see Jose is at least average. The Yankees will never want to move him! There were some gripes on Trea to make him better and I agreed with those. He’s just such an electric player IRL. With such high steals across the league I wouldn’t be surprised to see him break some records but his speed is only B which was odd to me. I’ll watch the triples impact on him. Originally I noted the woodruff pick surprised me but funny Enough that was because I didn’t notice Cole being removed from the class. Woodruff, snell and Nola are all similar to me. The commish knows the game well so I trust Brandon will be a good pick for minny. Blake Snell made a ton of sense for Game who’s also a real life padre fan. Did seeing snell win the CY in real life get him to make this as an easy pick? Glassnow I like a lot more that I learned that his durability will be edited / fixed. Makes sense to me. Tyler is a fun player IRL who has a very high celling
Getting to the rest of the first round now. It was more surprising than I expected. Bauer and Nola in the top 10 was a lock for me. I was so surprised to see Lindor fall to 8. I mean for 1 play changed his name to Lindor and I tried to trade up for him literally 3. Lindor might have scared some off with all
Goods but I think he will be a very balanced contributor on the diamond. Lindor is my personal favorite pick of the draft but I think I made that obvious. Getting into a little less detail for the rest here I loved seeing Nimmo in the top 15. Elite triples coming out, w e know the dude hustles. Musgrove I autod for Oakland so I technically did make a pick, thanks Brian. Javy and Sevy seem like they were made to bust and story was easily the “worst made “ player in the draft va my expectations so he fell pretty far to 16. Does he have a chance?
In review looking back if I didn’t deal any picks it looks like I would have ended up with Musgrove or Nimmo, Dylan’s Bundy and Fisher. I think I’ll survive and enjoy my season this year. I have David wright and Jose Reyes!
