Braves 2011, the Batters
Well Braves fans, another season has passed us by, and another season where the Braves wilted in the postseason. What should we see from the batters in 2010 do you ask, well, let us take a look.
C – Ojeda is coming back, and he is one of the best in the league behind the plate and at the plate for the position. 2010 was again sort of a let down season for him, but he still smacked out 23 dingers driving in 78. At 36 the Braves best start thinking about someone to replace him however, they have a few years.
1B – Vlad, a career 310 hitting average and power to send 30 plus dingers a year, he should continue to be be a huge boast to the Braves. Vlad is not a let down on the basepaths either. Last season he hit 323 with 27 homers.
2B – This is now Reyes position, and he is a stud that will get on base, steel and score at will. He also just got a gold glove, so his Def is no slouch. Reyes is going to be a star for at least another 15 years. Last season he led the NL in batting and stolen bases even though he missed 6 weeks.
SS – Sanchez is still the guy that is a former gold glove, but is always a threat to be a 30 / 30 guy. At 35 the Braves best start thinking about someone to replace him however, they have a few years. Over the last two seasons he has had 145 stolen bases and 45 dingers to the cheap seats.
3B – The amazing Edgar comes back at 3rd. Dude has been guarding the corner for 14 years, and he will be there for year number 15. At 34 the Braves best start thinking about someone to replace him however, they have a few years.
LF – Lee will once again be in left for the Braves, but he is really starting to get long in the tooth. He looks like he should easily crush 30 dingers a year, but last season he only sent 18 out in a disimal display of power. He is a stud in the OF with a rocket arm, and has the speed to get 40+ free bases a season.
CF – Will once again be Cedeno. In the last two seasons he has 19 dingers and 61 free bases. He looks to be the Braves CF for at least a couple more seasons but is getting long in the tooth. At 36 the Braves best start thinking about someone to replace him however, they have a few years.
RF – Timo Perez finally took over RF last season and his bat is amazing. Sadly, he is already 35 and will be 36 next season, but his glove is golden. At 35 the Braves best start thinking about someone to replace him however, as his window to play is starting to close.
DH – Shawn Green comes back to fill the role of DH. He is in his 3rd season with the Braves, and the Braves desperately need to replace him in the role of DH as last season he only put 19 out of the park and hit a paltry .232. Those are not numbers you want out of a guy that is just paid to hit.
Braves Depth
Desmond Jennings - DJ is a stud defender that ranges every position in the outfield. In limited playing time he smacked 7 dingers and had 22 stolen bases. The kid flat out flies on the basepath. At 24 years of age DJ should be a Brave for a long long time, til touchdown brings me round again to find he’s not the man I think he is.
Jason Kipnis – Jason was called up this season to back up the infield. Eventually he will be the Braves everyday starter at short, but this season he will be used for his glove to give people days off.
