"Nothing seems impossible in spring, you know." --L.M. Montgomery
The Pirates look to finally drop below the 100 loss mark for the first time since the 2007 season as a bunch of new faces join the major league club. Mike Trout leads the youth movement, joining Dexter Fowler and Elliot Johnson already on the ML roster. Pirate fans have been waiting several years now for Trout to finally make the move up from AAA.
Trout may be the biggest name to be called up this year but he is hardly the only rookie on the roster. Matt Capps should still have his rookie status as he didn't survive his cup of coffee during his first call up. Andy Dirks may never be a star but the Pirates expect him to be a solid defensive presence and an all around solid bat. Josh Harrison and Eugenio Suarez call ups have fans clamoring that it is too soon, however the Pirate front office believe that this is the year to call them up and let all the rookies grow together.
The potential is there for an ugly year but Kenny Powers and Joshua Jamieson expect the team will improve upon last season's 100 losses.
