A little reality to get you through to Opening Day(s). We are already 3 weeks into our baseball season in Florida.
Coming off of 2 straight losses, the Blanche Ely Tigers look to bounce back against what looks to be an even matchup on paper.
The Tiger baseball program has been literally dormant for a decade or more. Mr. T Williams became the school principal and wanted to bring back the team he played for.
It hasn't been an easy road. The inaugural season was a disaster posting an 0-a lot record. However, game three of season 2, could be the turning point.
The Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the first, much like another team I know, before losing 19-4.
Game 2 was against the 68th team in the nation, Monarch HS and it showed. They whooped us but did it with class and style.
Game 3 however, against Coconut Creek has the potential to be the first win in over a decade. I am washing uniforms and wrestling over a lineup.
1. PJ JR speedy converted football player. Makes decent contact, OF/SS but needs to work on his throw to first. More vocal captain
2. Jaiven- as pure a baseball player as we have, can play anywhere 3rd pitcher
3. Matthew- SP has 3 pitches nasty cutter, 4 seemed and a change that drops off so perfectly. Solid bat
4. Harry football star, track star, baseball stud. Track coach said he was getting too muscular. Hard worker, quiet captain
5. Ryan- freshman power hitter. Recruited from Little League. Destined for stardom, his swing came together this week. He might go yard tomorrow. 3rd base/ss/p
6. Isaih- we actually have 2 of him. Twins that are so alike it will make you laugh. His brother just started coming out but they are young, sophomores. I think they are the middle of the infield for the next couple years. Isaih- will be playing tomorrow at 2nd, Elijah probably will get time at first.
7. MO- sophomore lineman. Natural feet from football for 3rd base. Has a strong arm but it is still wild. Tall, but let's too many balls get past him at first.
8. Jerriel hard worker, still refining his swing but everyone makes regionals playoffs, we have time
9. LJ DH freshman football player, just seems to have a way of making contact. Refining his defensive skills to make him an outfielder, he is getting better every day.
The head coach told me tonight, this is the first game he thinks we can win
