Well, Braves fans it is the start of the 2011 season and the brave started off April 4 against the Brewers.
Game one of the season had alas on the mound going against Hudson for the Brewers. Atlanta scored first in the top of the third. However, Alvarez allowed the game to be tied up in the bottom of the ninth. Valverde came on to finish off the ninth inning and take it Into the 11th. That’s where he picked up the win as the Braves scored two more in the top of the 11th. In the game the speedster Reyes had three stolen bases to get a jumpstart on the season and all in all the Braves win 646 on the base path .
April 5, game two of the Brewers series Harden for the Braves was facing Williams for the Brewers. This one was all Braves as they tagged Williams for six runs in the 8+ innings. He pitched were hard and got his first win allowing only one earned run in his 7 1/3 innings. Valverde picked up his first save of the season. Reyes had two more stolen bases and the Braves went seven for seven on the game. The game also featured the Braves first homer of the season has Green hit one out and the fourth inning. It was a three run shot.
April 6, game, three of the Brewers series and Rupe was going against Romero. Braves came out swinging scoring for the top of the first. That was all the support that needed. Even though we gave up three runs in eight innings. It was enough. The verity came on for a second of the season. The Braves got four more stolen bases.
April 7, the last game on the four game series against Milwaukee. Bud Smith was going against Chavez for the Brewers. Bud was on his game. He pitched a complete game. However he did give up a run. The Braves bats were quiet until the fifth inning when they scored four in the top of the fifth Added two more in the sixth and two more in the eighth. The Brewers had enjoyed a one nothing lead from the bottom of the first until the top of the fifth happened. The Braves hit four home runs with San, Guerrero, Lee, and Green, all hitting balls out of the park .
April 8, the Cardinals came to town to take on the Braves was Sabathia on the mound for the Cardinals going against RA Dickie for the Braves. RA was on his game. He went eight innings only allowing one earned and Valverde came on for his third save of the season. Reyes Sanchez and Guerrero all had stolen bases. Attendance at Atlanta Fulton county Stadium was only 57,846.
April 9, it was bound to happen sooner later, and the Braves finally dropped a game. Alvarez was going against Villanueva for the Cardinals. The Braves bat just couldn’t produce the runs. The Cardinals only out hit them by two hits. However, they scored three more runs than the Braves. Reyes, Cedeno and Renteria all had stolen bases.
April 10, the third game of the Cardinal series. Harden was going for the Braves going against Perez for St. Louis. Harden won 6 1/3 innings before he was lifted as he had given up seven hits and three based on balls, but had somehow managed to keep the runners off. Strickland came on and I had a horrible third of inning, allowing two runs on two hits. Myers relief Strickland, and gave up a run that allowed St. Louis to take a fourth to lead. The Braves batters fought back and the bottom of the eighth they added run to cut it to 4 to 3 and the bottom of the ninth they had another run to force it into extra innings. It stayed that way until the bottom of the 12th , when they finally scored another run to take the win 5 to 4. Sean Green had a home run and Reyes Renteria and Kipnis all had stolen bases.
April 12, Atlanta traveled to Philadelphia. Rupe was going against Hammel for the Phillies. The brave bats while they got 10 hits just could not strike paid dirt as the Phillies had 12 hits and out scored them 8 to 2. The eight runs giving up by Rupe on 11 hits raised his ERA to 6.91 on the season.
April 13, Fudd Smith was facing Gonzalez for the Phillies. This was a pitcher dual after five innings. It was nothing. The Phillies tacked on two in the sixth and then the end all the Braves had more hits. They scored one fewer run, and the Phillies won 3 to 2.
April 14, game three of the Philly Atlanta series. The Braves bats came on glued in this game as they scored 15 runs on 15 hits. RA Dickie had a shitty game giving up five runs in eight innings. However when the offense puts 15 on the board you’re not gonna lose. Sanchez, Cedeno, Guerrero, Jones, and Green all had home runs.
April 15, Atlanta headed to Arizona. Alvarez was on the mound going against maze. This was a duel and the only scoring was in the top of the sixth when the Braves put two on the board. Alvarez when eight in without giving up a run to lower the ERA to 1.59 and even his record at one and one. Valverde came on and got the save for his fourth of the season. Sanchez sent one out of the park and Sanchez Guerrero and Lee all had stolen bases.
April 16, game two of the Diamondbacks series. Rich Harden was on the mound for the Braves going against Glover for the D backs. Rich was on fire and picked up his first complete game out of the season. Improving his record 200 and lowering his ERA to 0.79. All the scoring was Green as he sent out his fifth home over the season a two run shot.
April 17, the last game of the diamondback series. Ruppe was on the mound going against Myers for the Diamondbacks. Again the Braves batters came out in force scoring eight runs, and remarkably only one homer off their bats. On the bass path Raz, Sanchez and Renteria all had stolen bases. The Braves lead all teams and stolen bases and Reyes is number one in the NL with 11 stolen bases. Ruppe got a complete game shut out all nine innings and improving a season record to two and one. All in all the Braves were 10 and three for the two opening weeks with only three games at home .
