Justin Morneau wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He hit .542 with 6 RBI and slugged .833 in 24 at bats. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to San Diego's Bobby Abreu this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Bobby pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .429 with 4 HR and 8 RBI while slugging 1.095.
Sunday 4/23/2011: Adam Eaton (LAN) will miss 6 weeks
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s pitcher Adam Eaton was part of a scary incident that saw the right-hander being hit by a line drive in the 2nd inning of the game between Los Angeles (N) and Arizona. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Eaton will miss about 6 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Finger which will require surgery. Adam has a record of 0-2 this season, with an ERA of 5.68. In 12.2 Innings he was able to strike out 20 batters.
Friday 4/21/2011: Miami's Jimenez out for 5-6 weeks
MIAMI - When it rains, it pours. Miami's right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez will not pitch for at least 5-6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Milwaukee where he left the field in the 6th inning. Bone Chips Shoulder was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .176 against Ubaldo this season. While posting an ERA of 3.30 he went 2-1 in 4 starts, fanning 25 and walking 7 hitters. He's 5th in the National League in wins!
Friday 4/21/2011: Cliff P. Lee fires 2-hitter against New York (A)
MINNESOTA - Good things can happen when you throw strikes. And Cliff P. Lee did so today, in a 2-hit shutout against New York (A). Lee (1-3) struck out 6 and walked 1, throwing 67 of 101 pitches for strikes. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Adrian Gonzalez provided Minnesota with the offense Lee needed as he got 2 hits in 5 AB, hitting a homerun, scoring twice and driving in 2 runs. The final score of the game was 7-0.

NEW YORK (A) - New York (A) is without its right-hander Joe Fontenot for at least 8 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Richard Hidalgo in a game against Minnesota. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. New York (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Fontenot had suffered a Fractured Elbow. Opposing players hit .362 against Joe this season. While posting an ERA of 10.13 he went 0-1 in 4 starts, fanning 10 and walking 19 hitters.

NEW YORK (N) - It was a great day for Cincinnati's right-hander James Shields. The 29-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against New York (N) on Tuesday. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Shields (2-1) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking 4, throwing 124 pitches. Bo Hart helped Shields at the plate, he got 2 hits in 4 AB, and collecting 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 5-0.
Tuesday 4/18/2011: Ortiz and Lopez win Player of the Week award
David Ortiz from Boston wins his 6th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. He had an on base percentage of .600 and hit .542, while driving in 12 runs. Ortiz has hit 4 longballs this year while batting .348. He adds 5 doubles, along with 11 runs scored. It's the 3rd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Chicago (N)'s shortstop Felipe Lopez. In 24 at bats he hit .500 with 4 HR and 15 RBI.
