Braves Recap thru 4/24
April 19, the Phillies came to town. This was only the Braves fourth home game of the season. Bud Smith was on the mound for the Braves, taking on Gonzales for the Phillies. Philadelphia jumped out to one nothing lead in the second inning, and was cruising until the bottom of the fourth came along and the Atlanta bats exploded for four runs, and in that inning, they sealed the win for bud because he was on fire as the run in the second inning is the only one he gave up and he went the distance going nine innings for the win. Sanchez hit a dinger in the fourth with nobody on and Jennings Threw in a insurance run in the eighth with his solo shot. Reyes, Sanchez, Sedeno, and Jennings all had stolen bases.
April 20, game two of the Philly series. Who was on the mound for Philadelphia and RA Dickie was going for the Braves. Atlanta bats once again bailed out Dickie as he gave up five runs over his 8 1/3 innings. But the Braves scored one in the first two in the second floor in the third and we’re up seven nothing when Dickie fell apart in the fourth inning and gave up all five runs. But then Atlanta insurance runs and the fifth seventh and eighth inning and didn’t even bother going to bat in the ninth because they won the game going away 11 to 5. San Renteria and Green all had homers in the game raise Sanchez and San and Green also had stolen bases. 55,240 came out to Atlanta Fulton county stadium to see these two heavyweight slug it out.
April 21 Alvarez was going against Sheets for Philadelphia. The Braves had hope for a suite but that was not going to happen. Philadelphia only had two more hits than the Braves but scored three more runs. It was a tight one going into the ninth inning Philly was up 4 to 2 and the final was 7 to 4. Alvarez gave up four runs, but only three of them were earned and his record on the young season has fallen into one and two with a 2.12 ERA. Sheets with a higher ERA, however, is now two and one on the season. 54,555 people came out to see the Braves lose tonight Adalyn Fulton county stadium. Renteria hit a home run San Sanchez and Renteria all had stolen bases.
April 22, the first game of Atlanta in Miami. Rich Harden was on the mound for the Braves going against Wang for Miami. This is a pitching dual all the way however, Rich was not looking his normal self as he gave up three runs over the nine innings. The final was three to One. The only highlights for the Braves were San and Galo each getting a stolen base.
April 23, game, two of the Braves Atlanta series and again it was a pitching duel, Ryan Rupe, for the Braves facing off against Kazmir for Miami Miami in the bottom of the ninth. Rupé gave up a homer to Freeman to lead off the ninth inning game over. Only highlights again for the Braves were stolen by Sanchez and Guero. Back to back games braves only scored a single run. Not shocking they lost both of them.
April 24, the final game of three game series in Miami, Miami was going for the sweep. But Smith was on the mountain going against Oswalt for the Marlins. Braves finally came a lot as they scored four runs on the top of the first four more on the top of the second and then added, a few insurance, runs to run away with this game 11 to one.but Smith went the distance. God his third went on the season and dropped his ERA to 1.54. San Sanchez and Galo all had homers. Reyes and Renteria both had stolen bases. The Braves scored those 11 runs on 11 hits.
