Saturday 6/17/2011: Wilton Guerrero collects 2000th hit against Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA - Oakland's shortstop Wilton Guerrero already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. In 14 years of big league action so far, Wilton has compiled a batting average of .295, along with 103 homeruns and 876 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.' He hit a single in the 4th off Chris R. Young for number 2000.
Saturday 6/17/2011: Minnesota's Drew Stubbs laces five hits
MINNESOTA - Drew Stubbs is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. His 1st hit, off Chris Carpenter in the 2nd inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. His 4th hit was a RBI triple off Jason Stanford in the 6th inning. He had singles in the 3rd inning , in the 4th and in the 8th inning (one RBI). Drew did drive in 4 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He now has a total of 36 hits this season, accounting for a .211 batting average. Minnesota improved its record to 36-31, scoring 29 runs on 24 hits.
Tuesday 6/13/2011: Ramirez and Hart win Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was Cleveland's Hanley Ramirez, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. In 19 at bats he hit .526 with 3 HR and 5 RBI. This year Ramirez drove in 16 and scored 24 runs while batting .301 with 6 homeruns. It's the 4th time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Miami's rightfielder Corey Hart. In 25 at bats he hit .520 with 6 HR and 14 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 7 game hitting streak right now.

OAKLAND - Miami's right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Oakland on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 12th time he has done it in his career. Jimenez (4-2) fanned 7 and walked 1, throwing 105 pitches. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' LOS ANGELES (A) - Los Angeles (A)'s pitcher Bobby Parnell was part of a scary incident that saw the right-hander being hit by a line drive in the 2nd inning of the game between Los Angeles (A) and New York (N). Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Parnell will miss about 8 weeks. Broken Cheekbone was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. This season Parnell compiled an ERA of 3.44, going 2-4 in 13 starts. He fanned 39 while giving up 77 hits in 65.1 innings.

SAN DIEGO - San Diego's catcher Mike Sweeney was in good mood after the game against Chicago (A), and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. With two outs in the 8th inning, Mike drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. His best year so far was 2009 where he hit .366 with 41 homeruns and 127 RBI. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'

LOS ANGELES (A) - New York (N)'s lefty Odalis Perez is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Los Angeles (A) found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Perez 1st shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 31st shutouts in his career. Jason Heyward spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with no outs in the 6th inning. Perez (4-5) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking 1, throwing 110 pitches. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' Josh Donaldson helped Perez at the plate, he went 1 for 4. The final score of the game was 2-0.
