Saturday 6/24/2011: Boston has no chance in a 1-hitter by Roy Halladay
BOSTON - Great days are rare. But not for Toronto's right-hander Roy Halladay. Boston found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 21st time he has done it in his career. Halladay (11-1) fanned 6 and walked 1, throwing 107 pitches. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Franklin Gutierrez helped Halladay at the plate, he got 4 hits in 5 AB, blasting a homerun, scoring 2 runs. The final score of the game was 6-0.
Thursday 6/22/2011: Vernon Wells uncorks five hits against Arizona
ARIZONA - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Los Angeles (N)'s rightfielder Vernon Wells after the 5-4 win over Arizona. A pitch from Joe Mays in the 4th inning left his bat for a double. A pitch from Geoff Geary in the 11th inning left his bat for a double. His 5th hit, a solo homerun off Yusmeiro Petit in the 14th inning, landed an estimated 422 feet from home plate. He collected singles in the 1st inning and in the 9th inning . Vernon did drive in one while scoring one run on his own. He is hitting .223 this season, with 14 HR and 55 RBI.
Thursday 6/22/2011: Chicago (N)'s Mitch Moreland mashes five hits
CHICAGO (N) - Mitch Moreland is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. A pitch from Scott Olsen in the 3rd inning left his bat for a two-run double. His 3rd hit, a two-run homerun off Scott Olsen in the 5th inning, cleared the fence in right-center. Number 5 in the 8th inning, a shot estimated at 373 feet, cleared the wall in left field. He had singles in the 1st inning and in the 6th inning . Mitch did drive in 5 while scoring 2 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .315. Chicago (N) scored 9 runs on 11 hits.
Thursday 6/22/2011: Philadelphia's Young out for 4 weeks
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia is without its right-hander Chris R. Young for at least 4 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Chase Headley in a game against New York (N). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Ruptured Elbow Ligament was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Chris R. has a record of 8-3 this season, with an ERA of 2.38. In 121 Innings he was able to strike out 114 batters. He has 7 complete games and 3 shutouts.
Tuesday 6/20/2011: Redman (DET) and Villanueva (STL) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Detroit's Tike Redman, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Tike pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .577 with 4 HR and 9 RBI while slugging 1.038. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. Tike has gone 117 for 284 (.412) this season, hitting 12 homeruns and driving in 61 runs. He has scored 47 runs on his own. He's 1st in the American League in batting and 3rd in RBI! It's the 3rd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to St. Louis' pitcher Carlos Villanueva. Villanueva was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00. Along the way he struck out 16 in 18 innings. He pitched two shutouts! This season Villanueva compiled an ERA of 2.05, going 14-2 in 18 starts. He fanned 162 while giving up 96 hits in 145 innings. Carlos has pitched 2 shutouts and 5 complete games. He's 5th in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!
Monday 6/19/2011: Bucky Jacobsen socks five hits for Los Angeles (N)
NEW YORK (A) - Los Angeles (N)'s first baseman Bucky Jacobsen once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up New York (A)'s pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Sunday. His 1st hit was a RBI double off Michael Tejera in the 2nd inning. A RBI double off Michael Tejera in the 4th inning accounted for his 2nd hit. Number 4 in the 7th inning accounted for a RBI double. A 466 foot drive to center field marked his 5th hit, a three-run homerun off John Ely in the 8th inning. He had a single in the 6th. Bucky did drive in 6 while scoring 3 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 72 hits in 239 at bats, resulting in a .301 batting average. Los Angeles (N) scored 19 runs on 16 hits.
Sunday 6/18/2011: Milwaukee's Hudson out for 8 weeks
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee is without its ace Luke Hudson for at least 8 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Hanley Ramirez in a game against Cleveland. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Tricep Muscle which will require surgery. This season Hudson compiled an ERA of 2.38, going 6-4 in 15 starts. He fanned 133 while giving up 107 hits in 109.2 innings. Luke has pitched one shutout and one complete game.
Sunday 6/18/2011: Baltimore's Armas out for full season
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's right-hander Tony J. Armas will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Chicago (N) on Saturday. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Bone Chips Shoulder. Surgery will be performed next week. This season Armas compiled an ERA of 7.35, going 2-9 in 14 starts. He fanned 67 while giving up 102 hits in 67.1 innings.

NEW YORK (N) - Andy Phillips hits 'em where they ain't. New York (N) certainly agrees as Chicago (A)'s third baseman unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 2nd hit, a two-run homerun off Eric Stults in the 2nd inning, landed an estimated 403 feet from home plate. In the 8th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Dan Haren. He had singles in the 1st inning (one RBI) , in the 4th and in the 9th inning (one RBI). Andy did drive in 5 while scoring 5 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .364. Chicago (A) improved its record to 42-28, scoring 18 runs on 26 hits.
