The 1960 draft marked the first draft in which 20 teams were participants. Let's see how the AL did!
AL East
Baltimore Orioles:
Round 2 pick: CF Adolfo Phillips
Round 3 pick: 2B Dick Green
Round 4 pick: CF Ty Cline
Round 5 pick: 2B Jose Martinez
Round 6 pick: SS Eddie Takei
Dave traded the 3rd overall pick to the Tigers. In the 2nd round, he selected Adolfo Phillips, who could turn into a very good player with a hits increase to go along with the B/B running/stealing combo.
In the 3rd round, Dave selected Dick Green, who is another player that is a hits increase away from being a solid player. He doesn't run much, but has very good defense at second base, which should end up being his primary position.
4th round pick Ty Cline could become a decent 4th or 5th outfielder. 5th round pick Jose Martinez doesn't look too great but right now is worth keeping out as potential bench depth. 6th round pick Eddie Takei should get cut immediately.
Despite trading his 1st round pick, Dave got a steal with Phillips to make up for the loss.
Orioles 1st Round Pick Grade: N/A
Orioles 1960 Draft Grade: B
Boston Red Sox:
Round 1 pick: C Dick Dietz
Round 2 pick: 1B Tommy McCraw
Round 3 pick: P Tom Dukes
Round 4 pick: SS Gordy Lund
Round 5 pick: SS Cesar Gutierrez
Round 6 pick: P Dan Neville
After having traded away potential 1960 NL Rookie of the Year favorite Katsuya Nomura to the Cubs, Break needed a new catcher of the future, so he took Dick Dietz 13th overall. Diez will need a hits increase to be a solid catcher, but the average homers and brilliants walks are nice. Defensively, Dietz should be in the average-above average range.
In the 2nd round, Break went with Tommy McCraw. Like Adolfo Phillips, McCraw could turn into a future table-setter for Break with a hits increase and can play well defensively at first base and all over the outfield.
Break's 3rd round pick was Tom Dukes, who himself could use a hits increase, but should still turn into a good reliever later on.
4th round pick Gordy Lund could be a possible backup down the road. 5th round pick Cesar Gutierrez and 6th round pick Dan Neville both won't make it to the majors likely ever.
Break's draft was solid, but I bet right now, he wishes he still had Nomura around.
Red Sox 1st Round Pick Grade: A-
Red Sox 1960 Draft Grade: A-
New York Yankees:
Round 1 pick: 1B Dick Allen
Round 1 pick: 1B Tony Perez
Round 4 pick: 2B Ron Campbell
Round 5 pick: 1B George Kopacz
Dick Allen will likely turn into the next great slugger for the Yankees.
Chris traded up for the 2nd straight draft to get Dick Allen 2nd overall. Allen is a stud with power and will likely be a big part of the Yankees' future. Plus, with C/C running/stealing, Chris can bump them both up to turn him into a big base-stealing threat as well. He then used his own 1st round pick to get Tony Perez 20th overall. Perez will need a hits increase to be more valuable and should be looked at as another big part of the Yankees' future. Good thing both Allen and Perez can already play multiple positions.
Chris traded his 2nd and 3rd round picks from this draft. 4th round pick Ron Campbell could become a backup infielder one day. 5th round pick George Kopacz probably won't get past Single A ball.
Despite trading his 2nd and 3rd round picks, Chris more than made up for it by getting Dick Allen. With Yankee Stadium's hitter-friendly dimensions, Allen should turn into a league leading slugger later in the decade.
Yankees 1st Round Pick Grade: A+
Yankees 1960 Draft Grade: A
Washington Senators:
Round 1 pick: P Steve Blass
Round 2 pick: P Rollie Sheldon
Round 3 pick: C Hector Valle
Round 4 pick: LF Larry Stahl
Round 5 pick: 2B Paul Popovich
Round 6 pick: P John Upham
Adam's draft began with taking Steve Blass 12th overall. Blass looks to be a solid pitcher with good duration, but a nice PD or two would help him become more elite for sure. Still a very good pick for the middle of the 1st round.
Adam then got Rollie Sheldon in the 2nd round. Sheldon is pretty much major league ready at this point, so I'm not sure why Adam hasn't brought him up yet, unless of course he does not have the roster space right now to do so. Sheldon is probably more likely to be a reliever though with his ratings and D SP duration.
Unfortunately for Adam, he got Hector Valle auto'd to him in the 3rd round and has since released him. 4th round pick Larry Stahl will probably be a minor league backup throughout his career. 5th round pick Paul Popovich will probably be a minor league lifer as well and 6th round pick John Upham already got cut as well.
Adam's draft was decent, but the Valle auto didn't help the cause at all.
Senators 1st Round Pick Grade: B
Senators 1960 Draft Grade: C+
AL West
Chicago White Sox:
Round 1 pick: 3B Jim Ray Hart
Round 2 pick: P Jesse Hickman
Round 3 pick: P Fred Lasher
Round 3 pick: RF Jim Barbieri
Round 4 pick: RF Gary Kolb
Round 5 pick: C Don Bryant
Mark selected Jim Ray Hart 18th overall to start his draft. Hart will need a hits increase to get somewhere, but has some slugging potential. However, he looks like he will be a defensive liability, so he might be more suited as a platoon hitter.
Mark then went with reliever Jesse Hickman in the 2nd round. Despite the brilliant hits, I'm not too fond of F/F homers/walks. I can't see Hickman becoming more than extra middle relief depth in the future.
In the 3rd round, Mark selected Fred Lasher after trading with the Giants for the pick. Lasher's walks are fair, but he has decent potential nonetheless. Unfortunately, he will miss quite a bit of time now recovering from a CEI he recently suffered. He then used his own 3rd on Jim Barbieri. Barbieri looks to have backup outfielder potential, but some PD help could increase that potential.
4th round pick Gary Kolb and 5th round pick Don Bryant both aren't too bad for late picks, but there's definitely no guarantee either make the majors in the future.
Mark's draft was decent for a defending champion, but those fair walks ratings are not that great.
White Sox 1st Round Pick Grade: B+
White Sox 1960 Draft Grade: B-
Cleveland Indians:
Round 1 pick: 1B Hector Espino
Round 2 pick: P Bob Locker
Round 2 pick: LF Gates Brown
Round 3 pick: P Ted Davidson
Round 3 pick: P Nick Willhite
Round 4 pick: RF Sam Bowens
Round 5 pick: LF Hank Allen
Round 6 pick: RF Paul Jernigan
Hector Espino will give the Indians another bat to build around.
Ashes' draft started with taking Hector Espino 4th overall. Espino looks like he will be major league ready next season and has good talents across the board. He should add to what is already a powerful Indians lineup.
Ashes made 2 separate trades with me got both the Pirates' 2nd and 3rd round picks. With his own 2nd round pick, he took Bob Locker. Locker looks to be a solid reliever and potential future closer. Then, with the Pirates' pick, he went with Gates Brown, who will need PD help to become more useful. Right now, he projects to be backup outfielder at best.
In the 3rd round, Ashes took another solid reliever in Ted Davidson with his own and then Nick Willhite later in the round. Both of them should turn into useful pitching depth later on.
4th round pick Sam Bowens and 5th round pick Hank Allen will likely struggle to ever make the major leagues, while 6th round pick Paul Jernigan has noticeably less hope of doing so.
Ashes' draft was very good and he picked up a lot of prospect depth.
Indians 1st Round Pick Grade: A
Indians 1960 Draft Grade: A-
Detroit Tigers:
Round 1 pick: 1B Pete Rose Sr.
Round 1 pick: LF Tommy Harper
Round 2 pick: P Minnie Rojas
Round 3 pick: P Frank Bork
Round 4 pick: SS Dal Maxvill
Round 5 pick: CF Don Bosch
Pete Rose should soon become yet another feared bat in the Tigers' great lineup.
Trevor traded up in the draft to select Pete Rose 3rd overall. With brilliant hits, Rose should turn into an on-base machine and he can already play all positions except shortstop and catcher. I for one cannot wait to see if he hits .400+ in any season. Trevor then selected Tommy Harper 17th overall. Harper will need a hits increase in the future and will likely get one to go along with average homers, good walks, and B/A running/stealing. The Tigers are going to have bats for days!
In the 2nd round, Trevor went with Minnie Rojas, who is 26 but nearly major league ready. Rojas should turn into a very good reliever.
Trevor's 3rd round pick was Frank Bork, who looks to be decent pitching depth and could be better with PD help and increased duration.
4th round pick Dal Maxvill and 5th round pick Don Bosch both will probably be stuck in the minors for a while.
Trevor had a very good draft and got Rose and Harper to be big parts of the future.
Tigers 1st Round Pick Grade: A+
Tigers 1960 Draft Grade: A
Kansas City A's:
Round 2 pick: P Alfredo Ortiz
Round 2 pick: P Dick Estelle
Round 3 pick: P Tom Hilgendorf
Round 3 pick: 3B Rich Rollins
Round 4 pick: LF Ted Savage
Round 5 pick: P Danny F. Murphy
Round 6 pick: C Doug Holmquist
Noah traded his 1st round pick to the Yankees. In the 2nd round, he went with Alfredo Ortiz. Ortiz is young and raw, but has nice ratings and could eventually be a good pitcher for the A's. Noah then selected Dick Estelle later in the round with the Yankees' 2nd round pick. Estelle could use a walks increase and some duration work, but he looks to be a very good pitcher for the future.
In the 3rd round, Noah used his own pick to take Tom Hilgendorf. Hilgendorf's walks splits between LHB and RHB is quite drastic (not to mention the noticeable 0 rating despite average talent), but aside from that, he could become very good depth for the A's. Noah selected Rich Rollins with his other 3rd round pick from the Yankees. Rollins looks major league ready as is, but could use PD help to be more useful.
4th round pick Ted Savage will need PD luck in his hits to be a better player, while 5th round pick Danny Murphy seems like he will turn into additional relief depth. 6th round Doug Holmquist should have been released already.
Noah's draft was decent despite not having his very good 1st round pick around.

Los Angeles Angels:
Round 1 Pick: P Wilbur Wood
Round 2 Pick: P Jeff James
Round 3 Pick: P Pete Cimino
Round 4 Pick: LF Cap Peterson
Round 5 Pick: 3B Johnny Werhas
Round 6 Pick: P Jake Jaeckel
Stutter's second draft started with taking three consecutive pitchers. Wilbur Wood went 8th overall and has nearly all good ratings, plus A duration. He could be a good middle rotation starter for the Angels down the road.
In the 2nd round, Stutter went with Jeff James. James will need duration increases and a walks increase, but could turn into a good pitcher, whether it be as a starter or reliever.
Stutter's 3rd round pick went to Pete Cimino. Cimino could also use a walks increase, but should turn into good bullpen depth for the Angels.
4th round pick Cap Peterson could be good to keep around in case he gets that lucky PD at some point. 5th round pick Johnny Werhas and 6th round pick Jake Jaeckel are both not worth keeping around with all the poor ratings.
Stutter's second draft was pretty good as he now has some pitching to work with, but now, he will need some bats to put together a lineup.
Angels 1st Round Pick Grade: A
Angels 1960 Draft Grade: A-
Senators/Rangers:
Round 1 Pick: P Fred Newman
Round 2 Pick: C Randy Hundley
Round 3 Pick: 2B Morimichi Takasi
Round 4 Pick: SS Roberto Pena
Round 5 Pick: RF Frank Cipriani
Round 6 Pick: P Herb Hippauf
Jeff 2's second draft began with taking Fred Newman 7th overall. Newman got a nice walks increase earlier in the year, but unfortunately for Jeff 2, that will get reversed at the end of the season. Newman though still has top-middle rotation potential and with some duration work, could turn into a very good pitcher.
In the 2nd round, Jeff 2 went with Randy Hundley. The first generation of Hundley catchers we will see, Randy Hundley should turn into a solid catcher. If he gets PD help, he could be a starter, but if not, he's more likely to be a backup.
Jeff 2's 3rd round pick was Morimichi Takasi. Takasi has the B/B running/stealing duo, but will need a hits increase and likely some help in home runs and/or walks to become a starting second baseman. His defense looks very good and he is loyal as well, so this pick could certainly turn into a steal.
4th round pick Roberto Pena is on the older side for his development and probably won't amount to much in particular. 5th round pick Frank Cipriani could turn into a decent backup outfielder, while 6th round pick Herb Hippauf will be a benchwarmer for years to come.
Jeff 2's draft was pretty good, and again, it's too bad the Newman PD won't end up sticking.
