Saturday 7/22/2011: Oakland's Polanco out for 7 weeks
OAKLAND - Oakland's centerfielder Gregory Polanco hurt himself in the 5th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Gregory Polanco will miss at least 7 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Rib Cage Muscle. While compiling an on base percentage of .330, Gregory hit .260 and slugged .389. He has collected 27 runs batted in this year.
Saturday 7/22/2011: Shaun Marcum fires 2-hitter against New York (A)
NEW YORK (A) - Great days are rare. But not for Colorado's right-hander Shaun Marcum. New York (A) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 8th time he has done it in his career. Marcum (9-3) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking none, throwing 104 pitches. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Bo Hart provided Colorado with the offense Marcum needed as he stroked 3 hits in 5 AB, homering once, scoring 2 runs with 7 RBI. Colorado scored 9 runs on 14 hits.
Friday 7/21/2011: Nick Adenhart shuts out Oakland on 2 hits
OAKLAND - Chicago (N)'s right-hander Nick Adenhart is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Oakland on just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. Adenhart (13-4) struck out 4 and walked 1, throwing 59 of 100 pitches for strikes. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' The hitting star for Chicago (N) was designated hitter Lance Berkman, he went 2 for 4, blasting a homerun. Chicago (N) improved its record to 62-34, scoring 3 runs on 9 hits.
Thursday 7/20/2011: Hiroki Kuroda pitches 2-hit shutout against San Diego
SEATTLE - Seattle's right-hander Hiroki Kuroda is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. San Diego found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Kuroda 3rd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 5th shutouts in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Andrew McCutchen singled with two outs in the 6th inning. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Kuroda (5-10) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 66 of 106 pitches for strikes. Torii Hunter provided Seattle with the offense Kuroda needed as he went 3 for 4, hitting 2 doubles, scoring twice and collecting 4 RBI. Seattle improved its record to 50-44, scoring 12 runs on 14 hits.
Tuesday 7/18/2011: Philadelphia's Ruiz out for full season
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's catcher Carlos Ruiz suffered a season ending injury he was bowled over in a collision at home plate. Ruiz laid unconscious on the field for several minutes and had to be carried off the field. He will miss the entire season. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Hip which will require surgery. This year Ruiz drove in 57 and scored 63 runs while batting .312 with 14 longballs.
Sunday 7/16/2011: Oakland's Guerrero severely injured
OAKLAND - Oakland's season took a blow when Wilton Guerrero suffered a serious injury in the game against San Diego. He hurt his arm throwing a strike to first base. Guerrero will probaby miss 6 weeks. Bone Chips Shoulder was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Guerrero has hit for a .238 average this season. He has 11 extra base hits along with 102 total bases, resulting in a .299 slugging percentage.
