After a blazing start in the first 3 weeks in April, and an ice-cold transition in late April / early May, Jeter picked up the pace a bit in the past 2 sims. As a reminder, he had 23 steals in the first 22 team games played, 3 steals in the next 14 games played, and now 8 steals in the past 12 games played. We checked in with scouting report and noted he has supposedly consistent, but he has been decidedly not the past few weeks.
So, with Jeter, in his 18th, and likely, final season, he continues to be on pace to not only break the single-season stolen base record, but the all-time stolen base record as well. It will be much easier to
This past sim, team staff another drop off in his patience, but his hitting talent remains intact (for now). I suppose old age is getting to him. I mean, when you play for more than half of your life in professional baseball, I would lose patience too. The Twins are debating giving him an extra day or so to regain that patience / eye, which would help him retain some ability to get on base by way of bases on balls. By helping him to improve getting jumps on the basepaths, the Twins are likely to do so.
So, where are we now?
Original Pace / Projections
Career Pace: 0.58 steals per game played

Current Pace in Past 3 Seasons: 0.54 steals per game played
Average Games Played Per Season in Past 3 Seasons: 133 games
Pace times Average Games Played for an average season: 72 steals
Estimated Pace for 2012: 0.56 steals per game played

Estimated Steals: 79 steals
Quest for Chipper Jones' 2006 Record of 112 Steals
Jeter currently has 34 steals in 48 teams games played (Jeter has played in 44 of the 48 games, which is 92%). This puts him on pace for a still absurd 115 steals in his age-38 season. As anticipated, the original 169-steal pace was expected to drop, and he is starting to normalize toward the 100s. This continues to make for an interesting record watch. With 34 steals down, he is now 30% the way to the 113-steal goal with 30% of the season complete. Gripping!
Current Season Pace: 34 steals in 48 games or 0.71 steals per game (a decrease of 0.01 steals per game compared to the first 36 games of the season)
Remaining: 79 steals in 114 games remaining or 0.70 steals per game (an increase of 0.01 from the last check in)
Likelihood of breaking the record: estimated 15% likely, in the last week of the season (previously projected 20% likely, in late September)
Quest for Julio Cruz's All-Time Record of 1520 Steals
Jeter currently has 1483 steals, leaving him all but 38 steals short of breaking the all-time record.
Current Season Pace: 34 steals in 48 tames or 0.71 steals per game (a decrease of 0.01 steals per game from the last check in)
Remaining: 38 steals in 114 games or 0.33 steals per game (a decrease of 0.04 from the last check in)
Likelihood of breaking the record: estimated 90% likely, in early August (no change)
