Friday 9/20/2012: Jorge Cantu clubs three rockets
SEATTLE - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit three of them in one game is almost sensational. Kansas City's shortstop Jorge Cantu accomplished that feat in a 12-1 win over Seattle. Number 1 in the 2nd inning, a shot estimated at 377 feet, cleared the wall in left field. A pitch from Alex Herrera in the 4th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 443 feet from home plate in center field. His 3rd blast, a solo homerun off Doug Waechter in the 9th inning, landed an estimated 364 feet from home plate. Jorge got 4 hits in 6 AB, scoring three times with 5 RBI. So far this season he is batting .300 with 13 homers and 56 RBI. Kansas City improved its record to 46-107, scoring 12 runs on 17 hits.
Wednesday 9/18/2012: New York (N)'s Bruce wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Jose A. Bautista, Toronto's starting rightfielder. Bautista helped his team with an average of .429 and 9 RBI in 21 at bats. The National League's best player of the week was New York (N)'s Jay Bruce, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. In 22 at bats he hit .545 with 3 HR and 6 RBI. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! This year Bruce drove in 92 and scored 66 runs while batting .277 with 24 bombs.
Monday 9/16/2012: Scott Podsednik punishes Cincinnati with five hits
CINCINNATI - Scott Podsednik hits 'em where they ain't. Cincinnati certainly agrees as New York (N)'s designated hitter unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 2nd hit, off Bobby Keppel in the 2nd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. His 3rd hit, a two-run homerun off Miguel Gonzalez in the 3rd inning, cleared the fence in left field. A pitch from David Bush in the 5th inning left his bat for a double. He had singles in the 1st and in the 6th . Scott scored 3 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! He now has a total of 131 hits this season, accounting for a .268 batting average. New York (N) improved its record to 94-55, scoring 16 runs on 21 hits.
