Philadelphia Phillies 2012 Postseason Report
Record: 3-4
Home: 1-2
Road: 2-2
Offense: 18 Runs (2.6/Game)
Notes: Can’t stress how bad this is, but also can’t stress how good the Giants pitching was, too. At the end of the day, they hit the ball much better throughout the series, and so they deserved to move on. Just a bad sample for a really good offense.
Pitching: 28 Runs Allowed (3.68 ERA)
Notes: Pitching was good, but certainly not great, and it just needed to be great if we wanted to beat an elite pitching staff like the Giants. Ultimately they were much better this series, and it probably felt good for them to get us after we had their number over the years. Gio Gonzalez was dominant in this series for us, and we should’ve probably had him start game 1. Not a good decision on my end, but maybe it wouldn't have mattered either way.
Major League Spotlight
Best Hitter: RF Luke Scott
Postseason Stats: .286/.360/.476/0.836 OPS 1 2Bs 0 3Bs 1 HRs 4 RBIs 1 Runs 3 BBs 5 Ks
Notes: Not saying much here, but Luke Scott was our best hitter. Seriously. All of our bats were held under a .685 OPS. Not even kidding. Gotta tip your cap to the Giants pitching staff for sure, but man. We just got silence on the hitting end. Oh well. Shit happens!
Best Pitcher: SP Gio Gonzalez
Postseason Stats: 2 Starts 1-0 1.65 ERA 16.1 IP 9 Hs 3 ERs 1 BBs 8 Ks
Notes: Gio was simply sensational to end the season, and it’s not a coincidence that he was our best pitcher in the playoffs. I’m kicking myself a little bit not starting him in game one, but it is what it is. Not my best decision over the years, but again, the bats were awful, and so it probably would not have mattered anyway.
