SAN FRANCISCO - Great days are rare. But not for San Francisco's right-hander Tim Lincecum. Texas found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 8th time he has done it in his career. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Lincecum (10-1) struck out 6 and issued 4 BB, throwing 71 of 125 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for San Francisco was centerfielder Jack Cust, he finished 2 for 5, scoring twice and collecting 3 RBI. The final score of the game was 11-0.
Tuesday 7/23/2013: St. Louis' Lopez out for 5 weeks
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis is without its right-hander Wilton Lopez for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Willy Taveras in a game against Detroit. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .342 against Wilton this season. While posting an ERA of 7.66 he went 0-4 in 0 starts, fanning 56 and walking 32 hitters.
Tuesday 7/23/2013: Cliff P. Lee dominates Cincinnati, gives up just one hit
CINCINNATI - Minnesota's left-hander Cliff P. Lee is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Cincinnati found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Lee 4th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 25th shutouts in his career. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Lee (13-3) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 4. Robinson Cano provided Minnesota with the offense Lee needed as he finished 3 for 5, going deep twice, scoring 2 runs with 4 RBI. Minnesota improved its record to 61-34, scoring 10 runs on 17 hits.
Tuesday 7/23/2013: Carlos Villanueva out for 7-8 weeks
NEW YORK (A) - When it rains, it pours. New York (A)'s ace Carlos Villanueva will not pitch for at least 7-8 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (N) where he left the field in the 5th inning. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Bone Chips Shoulder which will require surgery. In 20 starts this year Carlos struck out 126 batters in 161 innings of work. His ERA is 1.06, his record 16-3. Carlos has pitched 5 shutouts and 11 complete games. He's 2nd in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins!

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's leftfielder Alfonso Soriano will miss about 7-8 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 1st inning of the game between Milwaukee and Cleveland. He dove for a drive off the bat of Ryan Zimmerman, and immediately signaled that he's not OK after hitting the ground. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Foot which will require surgery. Soriano has walked 21 times this year and posts a .254 OBP. While batting .201, 67 for 333, he has driven in 35 runs.
Monday 7/22/2013: Phillips wins Player of the Week award
It's the 0th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Andy went 6 for 16 (.375), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 6 RBI. Phillips has walked 20 times this year and posts a .338 OBP. While batting .292, 102 for 349, he has driven in 48 runs. The National League's best player of the week was Pittsburgh's Mark Trumbo, who wins the award for the 4th time in his career. COLORADO - On Sunday, Chicago (A)'s rightfielder Coco Crisp displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Colorado, punishing their pitchers with five hits. His 2nd hit was a three-run triple off Vance Worley in the 3rd inning. In the 5th inning he belted a two-run double off Vance Worley. A pitch from Lariel Gonzalez in the 7th inning left his bat for a double. In the 8th inning he belted a RBI double off David Aardsma. He collected a single in the 2nd. Coco scored 2 runs, and he collected 6 RBI as well! He now has a total of 84 hits this season, accounting for a .276 batting average. Chicago (A) scored 13 runs on 17 hits.
Saturday 7/20/2013: Chicago (A)'s Wilin Rosario mashes five hits
COLORADO - Wilin Rosario led Chicago (A) to a 23-4 win over Colorado by squeezing five hits out of his bat. His 1st hit, off Matt Harrison in the 2nd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in center field. A 403 foot drive to left-center marked his 3rd hit, a two-run homerun off B. J. Rosenberg in the 5th inning. In the 8th inning he belted a double off Lariel Gonzalez. He collected singles in the 4th and in the 9th inning . Wilin did drive in 4 while scoring 5 runs on his own. His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .247.
Saturday 7/20/2013: Cincinnati's Keppel out for 6-7 weeks
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati's right-hander Bobby Keppel suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 6-7 weeks. In the 2nd of the game against Kansas City he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Tricep Muscle which will require surgery. Bobby has a record of 2-10 this season, with an ERA of 6.62. In 88.1 Innings he was able to strike out 71 batters.

HOUSTON - San Francisco's right-hander Matt Cain is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Houston on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 9th time he has done it in his career. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!'
