Tuesday 8/6/2013: It's NO-NO time for Tim Lincecum against Los Angeles (A)
LOS ANGELES (A) - San Francisco's right-hander Tim Lincecum is a really great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff while making history, blanking Los Angeles (A) on no hits. 'Today I just felt great. I had a good feeling while warming up, and I knew something special was about to happen.' Lincecum (13-1) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 2, throwing 117 pitches. San Francisco's centerfielder Jack Cust got 2 hits in 4 AB, hitting two dingers, scoring two runs with 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Lincecum. San Francisco scored 4 runs on 7 hits.
Monday 8/5/2013: San Diego's Cole wins Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was New York (A)'s Giancarlo Stanton, who wins the award for the 4th time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .500 and hit .455, while driving in 10 runs. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Gerrit Cole, one of San Diego's best starting pitchers. Gerrit went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00, while fanning 10 in 18 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well.
Sunday 8/4/2013: Gerrit Cole turns in great performance against Texas
SAN DIEGO - San Diego's right-hander Gerrit Cole didn't look unexperienced at all. The 22 year old pitched a 1-hit shutout against Texas, recording his 1st shutout of the season. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Nick Swisher singled with two outs in the 5th inning. Cole (13-10) struck out 4 and walked none, throwing 61 of 95 pitches for strikes. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' San Diego's second baseman Matthew Brown finished 1 for 4, stroking a double, and driving in 2 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Cole. The final score of the game was 3-0.
Sunday 8/4/2013: Francisco Liriano fires 2-hitter against Arizona
ARIZONA - Francisco Liriano took the mound and never left. And Arizona hitters couldn't touch him at all. New York (A)'s left-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 13 career shutouts in 252 games started. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Liriano (12-8) struck out 9 and issued 1 BB, throwing 74 of 118 pitches for strikes. Giancarlo Stanton provided New York (A) with the offense Liriano needed as he collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, homering once, hitting a double, with three runs scored and driving in 5 runs. Sunday 8/4/2013: Kansas City has no chance in a 2-hitter by Brian Kintzler
KANSAS CITY - New York (N)'s right-hander Brian Kintzler is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Kansas City found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Kintzler 5th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 15th shutouts in his career. Kintzler (12-5) struck out 4 and issued 1 BB, throwing 56 of 95 pitches for strikes. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' Nick Markakis helped Kintzler at the plate, he went 2 for 4, homering once, stroking a double, scoring three runs and collecting 2 RBI. New York (N) improved its record to 60-43, scoring 11 runs on 15 hits.

CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s right-hander Charlie A. Morton made some history today, firing a no-hitter against Houston. Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. Morton (11-3) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 123 pitches. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today. That's a dream coming true for me!' Justin Upton helped Morton at the plate, he got 3 hits in 5 AB, homering once, hitting a double, scoring 2 runs with 3 RBI. Chicago (N) improved its record to 73-31, scoring 10 runs on 16 hits.
Thursday 8/1/2013: Zambrano and Lincecum receive Pitcher of the Month award
Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is Boston's Carlos Zambrano. He started 5 games in July, going 4-0 and compiling an ERA of 0.43 in 42 innings. Carlos fanned 40 hitters. Carlos also fired a shutout. Opposing players hit .202 against Carlos this season. Thursday 8/1/2013: Rasmus (BOS) and Wells (LAN) win monthly award
The American League Batter of the Month award goes to Colby Rasmus, Boston's starting centerfielder. Colby pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .368 with 4 and 20 RBI while slugging .558. This year Rasmus drove in 40 and scored 42 runs while batting .288 with 6 bombs. Los Angeles (N)'s centerfielder Vernon Wells had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Batter of the Month. In 92 at bats he hit .326 with 9 HR and 21 RBI. His season features a batting average of .272 (62 hits in 228 AB), 19 doubles, 4 triples and 14 taters. Wells collected 39 RBI and 41 runs as well.
Wednesday 7/31/2013: Oliver Perez shuts out Pittsburgh on 2 hits
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s left-hander Oliver Perez is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Pittsburgh found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Perez 2nd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 25th shutouts in his career. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' Perez (11-6) struck out 6 and walked 1, throwing 73 of 123 pitches for strikes. Adrian Beltre helped Perez at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 5 trips to the plate, and collecting 2 RBI. New York (A) improved its record to 62-38, scoring 6 runs on 9 hits.
