Friday 8/23/2013: C.C. Sabathia fires 2-hitter against Texas
MINNESOTA - Minnesota's lefty C.C. Sabathia is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Texas on just 2 hits. It's his 4th shutout this season, and the 9th time he has done it in his career. Sabathia (15-8) struck out 2 and walked 1, throwing 71 of 115 pitches for strikes. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' The hitting star for Minnesota was first baseman Mark Teixeira, he stroked 2 hits in 3 AB, stroking a double, and driving in 2 runs. The final score of the game was 4-0.
Thursday 8/22/2013: Carlos Zambrano shuts out Texas on one hit
BOSTON - Carlos Zambrano took the mound and never left. And Texas hitters couldn't touch him at all. Boston's right-hander gave up just one hit in his 5th shutout of the season. He now has 32 career shutouts in 312 games started. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Zambrano (17-5) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 6. Boston's rightfielder Rocco Baldelli finished 3 for 4, scoring two runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Zambrano. Boston improved its record to 53-68, scoring 6 runs on 11 hits.
Wednesday 8/21/2013: Cole Hamels throws PERFECT GAME against Milwaukee
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's lefty Cole Hamels is a really great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff while making history, blanking Milwaukee on no hits. The crowd of 51130 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Hamels (14-9) struck out an astounding 13 and walked none, throwing 73 of 115 pitches for strikes. Curtis Granderson helped Hamels at the plate, he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB. The final score of the game was 1-0.
Tuesday 8/20/2013: Justin Verlander quiets Seattle bats with shutout
DETROIT - Justin Verlander had some fun again. Seattle hitters did not. Detroit's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 21 career shutouts in 290 games started. Verlander (16-6) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 9. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Tike Redman helped Verlander at the plate, he finished 3 for 4. Detroit scored 6 runs on 13 hits.
Tuesday 8/20/2013: Titus Gros out for full season
BOSTON - Boston's right-hander Titus Gros will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Texas on Tuesday. Boston wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Gros had suffered a Torn Tricep Muscle. Opposing players hit .286 against Titus this season. While posting an ERA of 4.63 he went 4-10 in 24 starts, fanning 111 and walking 32 hitters.
Monday 8/19/2013: Scott T. Baker (CHA) will miss full season
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s right-hander Scott T. Baker experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 1st inning of the game against Oakland, Baker complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Torn Tricep Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .235 against Scott T. this season. While posting an ERA of 2.64 he went 15-4 in 24 starts, fanning 158 and walking 23 hitters. He's 7th in the American League in wins!
Monday 8/19/2013: Minnesota's Cabrera wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Miguel Cabrera, Minnesota's starting leftfielder. Miguel was on fire, hitting .536 with 3 HR and 12 RBI. This year Cabrera drove in 71 and scored 68 runs while batting .253 with 22 bombs. Matt Kemp wins his 6th Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Matt was on fire, hitting .448 with 4 HR and 14 RBI. Matt managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. Kemp has walked 38 times this year and posts a .296 OBP. While batting .235, 108 for 460, he has driven in 60 runs.
Sunday 8/18/2013: Los Angeles (A) has no chance in a 2-hitter by Ryan Webb
LOS ANGELES (A) - Ryan Webb had some fun again. Los Angeles (A) hitters did not. Chicago (A)'s right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 10th shutout of the season. He now has 29 career shutouts in 219 games started. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Webb (18-5) struck out 9 and walked 1, throwing 81 of 129 pitches for strikes. Chicago (A)'s designated hitter Adam Lind finished 3 for 5, blasting a homerun, hitting a double, scoring two runs and collecting 5 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Webb. Chicago (A) scored 9 runs on 15 hits.

LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s left-hander Clayton Kershaw is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Pittsburgh found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Kershaw 3rd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 11th shutouts in his career. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Kershaw (16-9) struck out 3 and walked 2, throwing 63 of 100 pitches for strikes. Los Angeles (N)'s first baseman Rickie Weeks went 2 for 3, stroking a double. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Kershaw. Los Angeles (N) scored 2 runs on 6 hits.
Saturday 8/17/2013: Wilmer Flores nabs six hits against Miami
MIAMI - Wilmer Flores is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 6 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. Number 2 in the 3rd inning accounted for a double. His 5th hit, off Jeff *Bennett in the 7th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in center field. A pitch from Dewon Brazelton in the 8th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 354 feet from home plate in left field. He had singles in the 1st inning , in the 4th inning and in the 5th . Wilmer scored 5 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .329. The final score of the game was 12-3.
Saturday 8/17/2013: Atlanta's Bucky Jacobsen laces 2000th career hit
ATLANTA - Atlanta's first baseman Bucky Jacobsen already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. He hit a single in the 6th off Vin Mazzaro for number 2000. Along with his 2000 hits, Bucky collected 135 homeruns and 879 RBI in 12 seasons. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!'
