The American League's best player of the week was Kansas City's Brad Wilkerson, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Brad went 9 for 22 (.409), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 7 RBI. His season numbers are: .266 AVG, 126 hits, 35 doubles, 7 triples and 17 homeruns, along with 60 RBI and 75 runs scored. It's the 2nd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to New York (N)'s first baseman Nick Markakis. Nick was on fire, hitting .526 with 3 HR and 6 RBI.
Sunday 9/22/2013: It's NO-NO time for Cliff P. Lee against Boston
MINNESOTA - Minnesota's lefty Cliff P. Lee is a really great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff while making history, blanking Boston on no hits. Trevor Crowe spoiled the bid for a perfect game when he walked with 2 away in the 6th inning. Lee (22-4) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 1, throwing 111 pitches. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today. I still cannot believe I did it.' The hitting star for Minnesota was shortstop Jose E. Ramirez, he collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, hitting a homerun, and collecting 3 RBI. Minnesota scored 5 runs on 9 hits.
Thursday 9/19/2013: Corey Kluber pitches his 6th shutout of the season
LOS ANGELES (N) - Great days are rare. But not for San Diego's right-hander Corey Kluber. Los Angeles (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 6th shutout this season, and the 7th time he has done it in his career. Kluber (17-8) fanned 3 and walked none, throwing 96 pitches. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Jose Abreu helped Kluber at the plate, he finished 2 for 4, homering once, stroking a double. The final score of the game was 3-0.
Wednesday 9/18/2013: Jose Vidro collects 3000th hit against Chicago (A)
CHICAGO (A) - New York (A)'s players had every reason to congratulate Jose Vidro, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 3000th career hit! With one out in the 7th inning, Jose drilled a double, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. In 16 years of big league action so far, Jose has compiled a batting average of .316, along with 477 homeruns and 1742 RBI. 'You dream about that as a kid, but when you reach such a milestone it's hard to believe. Fantastic.' The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
Tuesday 9/17/2013: Travis d'Arnaud out for 4-5 weeks
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s catcher Travis d'Arnaud will miss about 4-5 weeks after being knocked unconscious in a collision at home plate, in the 5th inning of the game between Los Angeles (N) and St. Louis. He was helped off the field after the incident. d'Arnaud will miss at least 4-5 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Fractured Hand which will require surgery. Travis is hitting .205 this year, with 101 hits in 493 at bats. He has driven in 77 runs, slugging .398.
Tuesday 9/17/2013: Chris R. Young out for full season
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's right-hander Chris R. Young will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Milwaukee on Tuesday. Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. This season Young compiled an ERA of 2.39, going 18-5 in 31 starts. He fanned 218 while giving up 196 hits in 245 innings. Chris R. has pitched 2 shutouts and 11 complete games.
