ATLANTA - Great days are rare. But not for Los Angeles (N)'s left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Atlanta found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 4th shutout this season, and the 16th time he has done it in his career. Kershaw (9-9) fanned 9 and walked 1, throwing 90 pitches. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' Travis d'Arnaud helped Kershaw at the plate, he finished 2 for 4, stroking two 2B's. The final score of the game was 1-0.
Thursday 8/14/2014: Mike Pelfrey shuts out Boston on one hit
LOS ANGELES (A) - Mike Pelfrey took the mound and never left. And Boston hitters couldn't touch him at all. Los Angeles (A)'s right-hander gave up just one hit in his 3rd shutout of the season. He now has 9 career shutouts in 174 games started. Pelfrey (13-7) struck out 9 and walked 3, throwing 69 of 108 pitches for strikes. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' Los Angeles (A)'s first baseman Ike Davis collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, homering once, and driving in 2 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Pelfrey. Los Angeles (A) improved its record to 56-58, scoring 5 runs on 8 hits.
Wednesday 8/13/2014: Corey Hart socks five hits for Miami
COLORADO - Miami's designated hitter Corey Hart once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Colorado's pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Wednesday. His 1st hit was a double off Chris Reitsma in the 2nd inning. In the 3rd inning he unloaded a solo homerun off J.J. Putz. His 3rd cleared the based, a three-run double off Grant Dayton in the 6th inning. His 4th hit was a two-run double off Grant Dayton in the 8th inning. His 5th hit, off Grant Dayton in the 9th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. Corey scored 3 runs, and he collected 7 RBI as well! He is hitting .286 this season, with 19 HR and 76 RBI. The final score of the game was 29-6.
Tuesday 8/12/2014: Los Angeles (N)'s Nick Johnson gets milestone hit
SAN DIEGO - Los Angeles (N)'s first baseman Nick Johnson was in good mood after the game against San Diego, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. He hit a single in the 9th off Blaine Boyer for number 2000. His best year so far was 2004 where he hit .300 with 20 homeruns and 99 RBI. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!'

TORONTO - Odalis Perez had some fun again. Los Angeles (A) hitters did not. Toronto's lefty gave up just 2 hits in his 4th shutout of the season. He now has 46 career shutouts in 387 games started. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Perez (17-3) struck out 8 and walked 1, throwing 72 of 112 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Toronto was first baseman Anthony Rizzo, he collected 1 hit in 4 trips to the plate. The final score of the game was 2-0.
Monday 8/11/2014: Prior and Granderson win Player of the Week award
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Toronto's pitcher Mark Prior. Prior was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.50. Along the way he struck out 17 in 18 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .151 against Mark this season. While posting an ERA of 1.56 he went 12-6 in 24 starts, fanning 178 and walking 30 hitters. Mark has pitched 4 shutouts and 11 complete games. Philadelphia's centerfielder Curtis Granderson had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Curtis went 14 for 30 (.467), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 10 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 9 games. Granderson has walked 36 times this year and posts a .367 OBP. While batting .313, 140 for 447, he has driven in 70 runs. He's 5th in the National League in batting!
