General Notes
Spring Training takes place after the completion of off-season Free Agency and the Amateur Draft. This is the opportunity to micro-manage a player's development going into the regular season.
Each player has 20 development points. By default, five (5) points are placed in each of four (4) categories for a player. The categories for Batters are Contact, Power, Strikezone-Judgment and Defense while the categories for Pitchers are Pure Stuff, Velocity, Control and Stamina. While points may be taken away from one category to improve others, there is the risk of decreasing development in one category which may lead to actual rating regression or possibly potential talent rating regression as well. Finally, a new position could be taught provided that five (5) points are taken away from one or more categories. Please note that it is possible for a player to "fail" to learn a new position which may also lead to regression as described above.
Spring Training Plans
Since there is no "Export to FTP" option in OOTP5, teams have three (3) options:
1. All 5's (Default)
Post on the Spring Training forum "All 5's" if it is desired to utilize the default option.
2. Ask Coaches
Post on the Spring Training forum "Ask Coaches" if it is desired to ask the advice of the coaching staff. The Commissioner must confirm receipt of this post.
3. Customized Spring Training Plan
When completed, click on the export button, which saves the file onto the local hard drive. The file will be located at C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Baseball\OOTP5\HOFFBL.lg\EXPIMP\ and be named "TEAMST##.dat" with ## being the team ID number. Email this file to the Commissioner. Post on the Spring Training forum "ST File Sent." The Commissioner must confirm receipt of the file and post.
Spring Training Limitations
- Batters must have at least one defensive rating at all times. Violation of this rule will result in the player being assigned ratings of .800 fielding percentage with E range at 1B.
- Pitchers with no starter duration shall not be trained to convert to a Starter. Violation of this rule will result in the player's starter duration removed and relief duration reduced to "E".
