MIAMI - On Wednesday, Minnesota's third baseman Daniel Murphy displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Miami, punishing their pitchers with six hits. A two-run double off Michael Bowden in the 2nd inning accounted for his 1st hit. Number 3 in the 5th inning accounted for a RBI double. TEXAS - Matt Cain had some fun again. REAL fun. Texas hitters did not. San Francisco's right-hander pitched a perfect game for his 5th shutout of the season. He now has 21 career shutouts in 234 games started. The crowd of 24263 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Cain (10-4) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 6. SAN DIEGO - Great days are rare. But not for San Diego's right-hander Dustin McGowan. Toronto found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 5th shutout this season, and the 18th time he has done it in his career. Omar Quintanilla spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with no outs in the 9th inning. McGowan (9-4) fanned 7 and walked none, throwing 116 pitches. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Edwin Encarnacion helped McGowan at the plate, he finished with 2 hits in 3 AB, blasting a homerun, and driving in 3 runs. San Diego scored 4 runs on 9 hits.
Tuesday 6/23/2015: Kansas City's Carlos Febles laces 2000th career hit
MILWAUKEE - Carlos Febles got a standing ovation from 29889 fans in Milwaukee, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. Along with his 2000 hits, Carlos collected 145 homeruns and 875 RBI in 15 seasons. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I gave everything I could to help my team.' His hit in the 2nd inning was a single off John Lackey.
