NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s third baseman Nolan Arenado accomplished a difficult feat in a 18-1 win over Oakland, drilling five hits to improve his career batting average to .179! His 3rd hit, off Luke Hochever in the 5th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. A pitch from Nick Tropeano in the 8th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 467 feet from home plate in center field. Number 5 in the 8th inning accounted for a RBI double. He collected singles in the 2nd inning (one RBI) and in the 4th inning . Nolan did drive in 4 while scoring 2 runs on his own. He now has a total of 49 hits this season, accounting for a .179 batting average. The final score of the game was 18-1.
Wednesday 7/1/2015: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
Mark Prior couldn't have pitched much better than he did in June, and the American League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. He had an ERA of just 0.42 in 43 innings of work in which he struck out 29 hitters. His record in June is 5-0. Mark also fired a shutout. His ERA of 1.15 helped him to a 14-2 record this year. He struck out 110 and walked 16 in 133 innings. He has 8 complete games and 2 shutouts. He's 3rd in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! COLORADO - Chicago (N)'s shortstop Jemile Weeks accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Colorado, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .261! A pitch from Brian Kintzler in the 2nd inning left his bat for a two-run triple. That one tied it at 3 runs apiece. A single in the 4th off Brian Kintzler accounted for his 2nd hit. A pitch from Brian Kintzler in the 6th inning left his bat for a double. Number 4 in the 7th inning, a shot estimated at 402 feet, cleared the wall in left-center. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Jemile did drive in 6 while scoring 2 runs on his own. Tuesday 6/30/2015: Jair Jurrgens fires PERFECT GAME against Houston
HOUSTON - Texas' right-hander Jair Jurrgens is a really great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff while making history, blanking Houston on no hits. The crowd of 36876 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. Jurrgens (4-11) struck out an astounding 13 and walked none, throwing 68 of 108 pitches for strikes. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Mark Teixeira provided Texas with the offense Jurrgens needed as he got 3 hits in 6 AB, blasting a homerun, scoring two runs and driving in 4 runs. Texas scored 10 runs on 15 hits.
Monday 6/29/2015: Player of the Week honors go to Rosario and Craig

SAN DIEGO - San Diego's centerfielder Willy Taveras suffered a season ending injury when he hurt himself diving for a ball. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Foot. Taveras has hit for a .274 average this season.
