NEW YORK (N) - Great days are rare. But not for New York (A)'s lefty Oliver Perez. New York (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 6th shutout this season, and the 40th time he has done it in his career. Perez (16-4) struck out 8 and walked 3, throwing 64 of 114 pitches for strikes. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Corey Hart provided New York (A) with the offense Perez needed as he collected 4 hits in 5 trips to the plate, stroking a double, scoring twice. New York (A) improved its record to 65-37, scoring 5 runs on 13 hits.
Wednesday 7/29/2015: Brian Kintzler shuts out Toronto on one hit
TORONTO - Brian Kintzler took the mound and never left. And Toronto hitters couldn't touch him at all. Colorado's right-hander gave up just one hit in his 7th shutout of the season. He now has 40 career shutouts in 168 games started. Kintzler (15-6) struck out 5 and walked none, throwing 72 of 103 pitches for strikes. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' Juan Pierre provided Colorado with the offense Kintzler needed as he finished with 2 hits in 3 AB. Colorado improved its record to 62-40, scoring 1 run on 5 hits.
Tuesday 7/28/2015: Justin Verlander quiets Cincinnati bats with shutout
CINCINNATI - Detroit's right-hander Justin Verlander is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Cincinnati found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Verlander 3rd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 35th shutouts in his career. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' Verlander (13-6) fanned 6 and walked 1, throwing 94 pitches. Detroit's rightfielder Daniel Palka got 3 hits in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, with three runs scored with 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Verlander. Detroit scored 7 runs on 11 hits.
