Tuesday 9/1/2015: Johnson and Bullington receive Pitcher of the Month award
Josh Johnson pitched like a legend in August, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He started 7 games in August, going 6-1 and compiling an ERA of 0.30 in 60.1 innings. Josh fanned 50 hitters. Josh has a record of 23-4 this season, with an ERA of 1.13. In 238.1 Innings he was able to strike out 227 batters. He has 10 complete games and 10 shutouts. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! It's the 1st time that the National League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Los Angeles (N)'s pitcher Bryan Bullington. His ERA of just 0.35 helped him to a 6-0 record in August. He worked 52 innings, striking out 43 hitters while walking 6. Bryan got two complete game shutouts as well! Bryan has a record of 19-5 this season, with an ERA of 2.32. In 217 Innings he was able to strike out 180 batters. He has 6 complete games and 3 shutouts. He's 4th in the National League in wins!
Tuesday 9/1/2015: Batter of the Month award winners announced
It's the 1st time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Chicago (A)'s third baseman Todd Frazier. He hit .321 with 33 RBI and slugged .587 in 109 at bats. His season numbers are: .257 AVG, 121 hits, 19 doubles, 5 triples and 21 longballs, along with 79 RBI and 53 runs scored. The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to Colorado's Starling Marte this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Marte helped his team with an average of .354 and 30 RBI in 113 at bats. Marte has hit 24 bombs this year while batting .322. He adds 41 doubles, along with 113 runs scored. He's 2nd in the National League in batting, 7th in homeruns and 3rd in RBI!
Monday 8/31/2015: Victor Martinez ropes 2000th career hit
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's first baseman Victor Martinez already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 1st inning was a single off Mike Clevinger. In 15 years of big league action so far, Victor has compiled a batting average of .257, along with 339 homeruns and 1392 RBI. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'
Monday 8/31/2015: Hart and Harden win Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Corey Hart, New York (A)'s starting rightfielder. He had an on base percentage of .536 and hit .538, while driving in 14 runs. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Atlanta's Rich Harden this time, as the pitcher displayed the best pitching perfomance in his league. Rich went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.06, while fanning 14 in 17 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well.
Sunday 8/30/2015: Gio Gonzalez shuts out Miami on 2 hits
PHILADELPHIA - Great days are rare. But not for Philadelphia's left-hander Gio Gonzalez. Miami found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 18th time he has done it in his career. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Gonzalez (20-4) struck out an astounding 14 and walked 2, throwing 71 of 120 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Philadelphia was centerfielder Curtis Granderson, he stroked 3 hits in 4 AB, homering twice, scoring three runs and driving in 3 runs. Philadelphia improved its record to 85-47, scoring 11 runs on 18 hits.
Friday 8/28/2015: Justin Morneau (NYA) will miss 5-6 weeks
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s Justin Morneau suffered a serious injury Friday in a game against Detroit. Morneau fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 5-6 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Foot. Surgery will be performed next week. His season numbers are: .321 AVG, 153 hits, 31 doubles, 6 triples and 22 taters, along with 84 RBI and 79 runs scored. He's 2nd in the American League in batting and 5th in RBI!
Monday 8/24/2015: Minnesota's Cabrera wins Player of the Week award
Miguel Cabrera from Minnesota wins his 16th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. He had an on base percentage of .593 and hit .522, while driving in 9 runs. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Elvis Andrus, San Francisco's starting shortstop. Elvis went 14 for 28 (.500), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 10 RBI.
