Monday 9/7/2015: C.C. Sabathia dominates Boston, gives up just one hit
BOSTON - Great days are rare. But not for Minnesota's southpaw C.C. Sabathia. Boston found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 5th shutout this season, and the 22nd time he has done it in his career. Sabathia (11-9) struck out 5 and walked 1, throwing 62 of 98 pitches for strikes. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Minnesota's second baseman Robinson Cano finished with 3 hits in 5 AB, homering once, doubling once, scoring twice and collecting 4 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Sabathia. Minnesota scored 8 runs on 13 hits.
Monday 9/7/2015: Lopez and Johnson win Player of the Week award
Baltimore's shortstop Felipe Lopez had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .571 and hit .550, while driving in 5 runs. Kelly Johnson from New York (N) wins his 6th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Kelly pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .452 with 4 HR and 7 RBI while slugging .968. He has hit 21 longballs while batting .279 this season. His 152 hits and 53 walks add up to a .344 on-base percentage.
Saturday 9/5/2015: Philadelphia's Hamels severely injured
PHILADELPHIA - When it rains, it pours. Philadelphia's southpaw Cole Hamels will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Arizona where he left the field in the 6th inning. Strained Tricep Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .261 against Cole this season. While posting an ERA of 3.84 he went 11-12 in 30 starts, fanning 173 and walking 51 hitters.
Saturday 9/5/2015: Barry Zito quiets Boston bats with shutout
DETROIT - Age doesn't matter. At least Detroit's left-hander Barry Zito shares this opinion. The 37 year old pitched a 2-hit shutout against Boston, recording his 3rd shutout of the season. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Zito (10-6) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 7. Yasmani Grandal helped Zito at the plate, he went 2 for 4, hitting a homerun, scoring three times and collecting 3 RBI. Detroit scored 9 runs on 14 hits.

HOUSTON - Kansas City's right-hander Mike Leake will never forget this day. The 27-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Houston on Thursday. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Jarrod Dyson singled with two outs in the 6th inning. Leake (10-10) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 8. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Kansas City's catcher John Buck finished with 1 hit in 4 AB, hitting a homerun. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Leake. Kansas City scored 2 runs on 12 hits.
Wednesday 9/2/2015: Cleveland's George Springer has great day, hits three longballs
CLEVELAND - George Springer can hit'em a long way, and Seattle pitchers couldn't smile about that today. Cleveland's centerfielder unloaded three bombs, adding to his reputation of being one of the best power hitters in the game. Number 1 in the 2nd inning, a shot estimated at 360 feet, cleared the wall in left field. In the 6th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Walker Buehler. A pitch from Javier Lopez in the 8th inning left his bat for a three-run homerun, landing 357 feet from home plate in left field. Overall he stroked 3 hits in 4 AB, scoring three runs with 6 RBI. His homerun total this year is 26, along with 73 RBI. On 7/19/2015, Christian Bethancourt was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game. Cleveland improved its record to 91-44, scoring 7 runs on 10 hits.

Tuesday 9/1/2015: Nelson R. Cruz stars with 2000th career hit
LOS ANGELES (A) - Oakland's Nelson R. Cruz showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Los Angeles (A) on Tuesday. He hit a single in the 12th off Boone Logan for number 2000. His best year so far was 2006 where he hit .281 with 41 homeruns and 115 RBI. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'
Tuesday 9/1/2015: Johnson and Bullington receive Pitcher of the Month award
Josh Johnson pitched like a legend in August, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He started 7 games in August, going 6-1 and compiling an ERA of 0.30 in 60.1 innings. Josh fanned 50 hitters. Josh has a record of 23-4 this season, with an ERA of 1.13. In 238.1 Innings he was able to strike out 227 batters. He has 10 complete games and 10 shutouts. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! It's the 1st time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Chicago (A)'s third baseman Todd Frazier. He hit .321 with 33 RBI and slugged .587 in 109 at bats. The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to Colorado's Starling Marte this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league.
