Tuesday 9/22/2015: C.C. Sabathia dominates Boston, gives up just one hit
MINNESOTA - Minnesota's lefty C.C. Sabathia is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Boston on just one hit. It's his 7th shutout this season, and the 24th time he has done it in his career. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Sabathia (13-10) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 1, throwing 109 pitches. Minnesota's designated hitter Jorge Polanco finished 3 for 4. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Sabathia. Minnesota improved its record to 109-43, scoring 8 runs on 12 hits.
Monday 9/21/2015: Los Angeles (A)'s Blackmon wins Player of the Week award
It's the 6th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Los Angeles (A)'s leftfielder Charlie Blackmon. He had an on base percentage of .567 and hit .536, while driving in 12 runs. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 8 game hitting streak right now. His season numbers are: .299 AVG, 165 hits, 28 doubles, 3 triples and 22 taters, along with 102 RBI and 83 runs scored. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Chicago (N)'s centerfielder Corey Dickerson. Dickerson helped his team with an average of .464 and 10 RBI in 28 at bats. While compiling an on base percentage of .322, Corey hit .273 and slugged .468. He has collected 63 runs batted in this year.
Sunday 9/20/2015: Allen Craig punishes Milwaukee with five hits
MILWAUKEE - Allen Craig hits 'em where they ain't. Milwaukee certainly agrees as Chicago (N)'s designated hitter unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. A pitch from Kelvim Escobar in the 1st inning left his bat for a RBI double. Number 2 in the 2nd inning accounted for a double. Number 5 in the 9th inning, a shot estimated at 419 feet, cleared the wall in center field. He had singles in the 6th and in the 7th . Allen scored 5 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .354. Chicago (N) improved its record to 114-37, scoring 27 runs on 27 hits.
Saturday 9/19/2015: Odalis Perez turns in great performance against Houston
HOUSTON - Toronto's lefty Odalis Perez is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Houston found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Perez 5th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 56th shutouts in his career. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' Perez (20-8) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking 2, throwing 110 pitches. B.J Upton provided Toronto with the offense Perez needed as he got 2 hits in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, scoring 2 runs and collecting 3 RBI. The final score of the game was 12-0.
Friday 9/18/2015: Dustin McGowan (SDG) will miss 5 weeks
SAN DIEGO - When it rains, it pours. San Diego's ace Dustin McGowan will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Atlanta where he left the field in the 2nd inning. McGowan was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Tricep Tendon. In 32 starts this year Dustin struck out 224 batters in 262.2 innings of work. His ERA is 1.37, his record 18-7. Dustin has pitched 7 shutouts and 17 complete games.
Wednesday 9/16/2015: Max Scherzer out for 7-8 weeks
MINNESOTA - When it rains, it pours. Minnesota's ace Max Scherzer will not pitch for at least 7-8 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Detroit where he left the field in the 6th inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Tricep Muscle. This season Scherzer compiled an ERA of 2.03, going 19-7 in 30 starts. He fanned 202 while giving up 194 hits in 248.1 innings. He has 15 complete games and 6 shutouts. He's 6th in the American League in wins!
