Wednesday 6/1/2016: Baltimore's Snell earns Pitcher of the Month award
Baltimore's pitcher Blake Snell is the American League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in May. He struck out 33 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 4-1 while pitching 33 innings. His ERA in May was 0.96. Colorado's leftfielder Starling Marte had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Batter of the Month. In 121 at bats he hit .364 with 8 HR and 25 RBI. This year Marte drove in 39 and scored 41 runs while batting .336 with 13 longballs. He's 5th in the National League in batting!
Monday 5/30/2016: Arizona's Gillaspie wins Player of the Week award
It's the 17th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Minnesota's leftfielder Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera helped his team with an average of .478 and 7 RBI in 23 at bats. This year Cabrera drove in 40 and scored 43 runs while batting .297 with 12 homeruns. He's 1st in the American League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns! It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Arizona's third baseman Conor Gillaspie. Conor was on fire, hitting .682 with 4 HR and 11 RBI. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well!

ARIZONA - Conor Gillaspie is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. His 1st hit was a double off Jeff Weaver in the 1st inning. In the 5th inning he belted a double off Jeff Weaver. A pitch from David Phelps in the 6th inning left his bat for a double. His 5th hit, off Dewon Brazelton in the 8th inning, was a GRAND SLAM and cleared the fence in center field. He had a single in the 3rd. Conor did drive in 4 while scoring 2 runs on his own. He is hitting .293 this season, with 5 HR and 22 RBI. The final score of the game was 10-1.
Sunday 5/29/2016: Hank Blalock (CLE) will miss 5-6 weeks
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's shortstop Hank Blalock suffered a serious injury when he was struck by a pitch from San Diego's Sonny Gray. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Blalock will probaby miss 5-6 weeks. After being taken to a local hospital, Blalock was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Broken Hand. Hank has gone 43 for 167 (.257) this season, hitting 3 longballs and driving in 21 runs. He has scored 14 runs on his own.
Saturday 5/28/2016: Lance Lynn fires 2-hitter against New York (N)
TORONTO - It was a great day for Toronto's right-hander Lance Lynn. The 29-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against New York (N) on Saturday. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Lynn (4-3) fanned 5 and walked 3, throwing 113 pitches. Ben Revere provided Toronto with the offense Lynn needed as he finished 3 for 5, hitting 2 doubles, scoring three runs with 3 RBI. Toronto improved its record to 36-14, scoring 12 runs on 17 hits.
Thursday 5/26/2016: Tim Lincecum (SFG) will miss 5 weeks
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's right-hander Tim Lincecum suffered a severe injury on Thursday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 2nd of the game against New York (N) he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Back Muscle. This season Lincecum compiled an ERA of 2.08, going 6-2 in 12 starts. He fanned 86 while giving up 64 hits in 90.2 innings. Tim has pitched one shutout and 3 complete games.

KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's left-hander James Paxton suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at least 4-5 weeks. In the 1st of the game against Houston he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Elbow Ligament. This season Paxton compiled an ERA of 3.75, going 3-3 in 10 starts. He fanned 65 while giving up 49 hits in 57.2 innings.
Tuesday 5/24/2016: Sonny Gray pitches 2-hit shutout against Miami
SAN DIEGO - San Diego's right-hander Sonny Gray is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Miami on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 7th time he has done it in his career. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' Gray (4-6) struck out an astounding 14 and walked none, throwing 71 of 115 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for San Diego was rightfielder Brandon Moss, he got 2 hits in 4 AB, hitting two dingers, scoring two runs and driving in 5 runs. San Diego scored 10 runs on 10 hits.
