Wednesday 6/22/2016: Texas has no chance in a 1-hitter by Brian Kintzler
COLORADO - Brian Kintzler took the mound and never left. And Texas hitters couldn't touch him at all. Colorado's right-hander gave up just one hit in his 4th shutout of the season. He now has 48 career shutouts in 199 games started. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Kintzler (8-6) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 5. The hitting star for Colorado was third baseman David Wright, he finished 3 for 6, hitting two dingers, hitting a double, scoring twice and driving in 4 runs. Colorado scored 17 runs on 25 hits.
Wednesday 6/22/2016: Texas' Minor severely injured
TEXAS - Texas' pitcher Mike Minor was part of a scary incident that saw the lefty being hit by a line drive in the 6th inning of the game between Texas and Colorado. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Minor will miss about 7 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Hand. Surgery will be performed next week. Opposing players hit .283 against Mike this season. While posting an ERA of 4.84 he went 4-8 in 15 starts, fanning 114 and walking 13 hitters.
Wednesday 6/22/2016: Baltimore's Mark Teahen gets the cycle
MILWAUKEE - Baltimore's shortstop Mark Teahen accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Milwaukee, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .251! A single in the 3rd off Gil Meche accounted for his 1st hit. Hit number 2 followed in the 4th inning, a triple. A pitch from Gil Meche in the 6th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 386 feet from home plate in right field. His 4th hit was a double off Todd Redmond in the 7th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! A single in the 9th off Brandon Morrow accounted for his 5th hit. Mark did drive in 2 while scoring 2 runs on his own. His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .273. 144 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Mark. Starling Marte was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 5/13/2016.
Tuesday 6/21/2016: Francisco Liriano turns in great performance against Los Angeles (N)
OAKLAND - Francisco Liriano took the mound and never left. And Los Angeles (N) hitters couldn't touch him at all. Oakland's left-hander gave up just one hit in his 4th shutout of the season. He now has 22 career shutouts in 320 games started. Liriano (8-5) fanned 5 and walked 4, throwing 122 pitches. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' Marcell Ozuna provided Oakland with the offense Liriano needed as he collected 1 hit in 3 trips to the plate, hitting a double. Oakland scored 4 runs on 3 hits.
Monday 6/20/2016: Clayton Kershaw fires 1-hitter against Oakland
OAKLAND - Clayton Kershaw took the mound and never left. And Oakland hitters couldn't touch him at all. Los Angeles (N)'s southpaw gave up just one hit in his 5th shutout of the season. He now has 32 career shutouts in 236 games started. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Kershaw (13-1) struck out 4 and issued 1 BB, throwing 65 of 97 pitches for strikes. Willy Taveras provided Los Angeles (N) with the offense Kershaw needed as he finished 1 for 4, homering once. Los Angeles (N) improved its record to 48-25, scoring 5 runs on 6 hits.
Monday 6/20/2016: Davis and Gonzalez win Player of the Week award
Ike Davis from Los Angeles (A) wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Ike pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .526 with 5 HR and 13 RBI while slugging 1.421. Gio Gonzalez of St. Louis wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for dominating National League's hitters the entire week. Gonzalez was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.06. Along the way he struck out 13 in 17 innings. He hurled a shutout as well.
Saturday 6/18/2016: Oakland's Lopez severely injured
OAKLAND - Oakland's shortstop Felipe Lopez will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Oakland and St. Louis. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Lopez collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Back Muscle which will require surgery. His season numbers are: .260 AVG, 47 hits, 15 doubles, 3 triples and 6 longballs, along with 30 RBI and 23 runs scored.

LOS ANGELES (A) - Shaun Marcum took the mound and never left. And Cincinnati hitters couldn't touch him at all. Los Angeles (A)'s right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 18 career shutouts in 317 games started. Marcum (9-3) struck out 4 and issued 1 BB, throwing 69 of 118 pitches for strikes. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' The hitting star for Los Angeles (A) was first baseman Ike Davis, he finished 3 for 4, homering once, with 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 4-0.
