Wednesday 7/6/2016: Miami's Beato severely injured
MIAMI - Miami's right-hander Pedro Beato suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at least 4-5 weeks. In the 7th of the game against Pittsburgh he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being taken to a local hospital, Beato was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle. His ERA of 14.74 helped him to a 0-2 record this year. He struck out 21 and walked 114 in 91 innings.
Wednesday 7/6/2016: Felipe Paulino (LAN) will miss full season
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander Felipe Paulino experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 2nd inning of the game against Atlanta, Paulino complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. After being taken to a local hospital, Paulino was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Bicep Muscle. Opposing players hit .205 against Felipe this season. While posting an ERA of 2.45 he went 12-6 in 22 starts, fanning 159 and walking 22 hitters. Felipe has pitched 2 shutouts and 2 complete games.
Wednesday 7/6/2016: Joe Mauer collects five hits against Houston
HOUSTON - Minnesota's catcher Joe Mauer once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Houston's pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Wednesday. His 1st hit was a double off Alex Wood in the 1st inning. Number 2 in the 3rd inning, a shot estimated at 441 feet, cleared the wall in left-center. His 4th hit, off Christian Friedrich in the 5th inning, was a GRAND SLAM and cleared the fence in center field. He collected singles in the 4th (one RBI) and in the 7th inning . Joe scored 5 runs, and he collected 7 RBI as well! He now has a total of 92 hits this season, accounting for a .319 batting average. Minnesota scored 31 runs on 24 hits.
Tuesday 7/5/2016: Los Angeles (N) has no chance in a 1-hitter by Mark Prior
ATLANTA - Mark Prior had some fun again. Los Angeles (N) hitters did not. Atlanta's right-hander gave up just one hit in his 4th shutout of the season. He now has 38 career shutouts in 356 games started. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Prior (12-0) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 1, throwing 118 pitches. Atlanta's designated hitter Craig Gentry stroked 2 hits in 4 AB. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Prior. The final score of the game was 1-0.
Tuesday 7/5/2016: Doug Fister turns in great performance against Boston
BOSTON - It was a great day for Oakland's right-hander Doug Fister. The 32-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Boston on Tuesday. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Fister (5-8) struck out 5 and walked 1, throwing 56 of 96 pitches for strikes. Oakland's rightfielder Matt Kemp collected 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate, hitting a homerun, scoring twice and collecting 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Fister. MIAMI - Miami's second baseman Brandon Phillips will miss about 7 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 6th inning of the game between Miami and Pittsburgh. He fielded a ball off the bat of Mark Trumbo, threw a bullet to first and immediately signaled that he's not OK. Strained Tricep Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. Ryan Braun from Seattle wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Braun helped his team with an average of .517 and 9 RBI in 29 at bats. Los Angeles (N)'s third baseman Prince Fielder had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Fielder helped his team with an average of .536 and 21 RBI in 28 at bats. Fielder has hit 18 homeruns this year while batting .240. He adds 14 doubles, along with 50 runs scored.
Sunday 7/3/2016: Trea Turner on fire, laces five hits
CHICAGO (A) - Kansas City's shortstop Trea Turner once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Chicago (A)'s pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Sunday. A pitch from Jeremy Bonderman in the 2nd inning left his bat for a GRAND SLAM, landing 412 feet from home plate in left-center. His 4th hit, a three-run homerun off Esmil Rogers in the 5th inning, landed an estimated 355 feet from home plate. In the 7th inning he belted a double off Darren O'Day. He collected singles in the 1st inning and in the 3rd (one RBI). Trea did drive in 8 while scoring 4 runs on his own. His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .271. Kansas City improved its record to 39-46, scoring 14 runs on 17 hits.
Sunday 7/3/2016: Boston's Halladay out for 5 weeks
BOSTON - Boston is without its right-hander Roy Halladay for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Jack Cust in a game against Baltimore. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Pulled Bicep Muscle which will require surgery. In 17 starts this year Roy struck out 56 batters in 80 innings of work. His ERA is 6.64, his record 3-9.

Keuchel (13-7) struck out 9 and walked 3, throwing 71 of 127 pitches for strikes. Friday 7/1/2016: Cleveland's Lester earns Pitcher of the Month award
Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is Cleveland's Jon Lester. He struck out 54 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 4-1 while pitching 54 innings.
