Friday 7/15/2016: Edwin Jackson pitches 2-hit shutout against Philadelphia
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's right-hander Edwin Jackson is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Philadelphia on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 13th time he has done it in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Wilmer Flores singled with no outs in the 5th inning. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Jackson (3-10) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 1, throwing 109 pitches. The hitting star for Cleveland was designated hitter Kevin Youkilis, he finished with 3 hits in 3 AB, stroking a double, scoring three times and collecting 4 RBI. Cleveland scored 13 runs on 15 hits.
Monday 7/11/2016: Rosario and Semien win Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was Minnesota's Wilin Rosario, who wins the award for the 6th time in his career. Wilin went 14 for 27 (.519), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 14 RBI. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Marcus Semien, St. Louis' starting second baseman. Marcus pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .400 with 5 HR and 13 RBI while slugging 1.040. Semien has walked 24 times this year and posts a .392 OBP. While batting .331, 99 for 299, he has driven in 69 runs. He's 1st in the National League in batting, 8th in homeruns and 4th in RBI!
Sunday 7/10/2016: Chris Davis slams 3 HR
LOS ANGELES (N) - Chris Davis powered Chicago (N) to a 6-3 win over Los Angeles (N). He did it in style by homering three times. In the 1st inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Scott Olsen. His 2nd blast, a two-run homerun off Scott Olsen in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 426 feet from home plate. His 3rd shot, off Jacob Kimmell in the 6th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in center field. Overall he got 3 hits in 3 AB, with three runs scored and driving in 5 runs. Adrian Gonzalez was the last player to hit 3 homeruns in a game, doing it 6/24/2016.
