Monday 8/8/2016: Detroit's Lawrie wins Player of the Week award
Brett Lawrie from Detroit wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Brett pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .476 with 6 HR and 10 RBI while slugging 1.476. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. His season numbers are: .242 AVG, 94 hits, 14 doubles, 2 triples and 22 bombs, along with 62 RBI and 50 runs scored. The National League's best player of the week was St. Louis' Jorge Soler, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Soler helped his team with an average of .481 and 16 RBI in 27 at bats. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Soler has hit 19 longballs this year while batting .277. He adds 18 doubles, along with 69 runs scored.
Monday 8/1/2016: Dunn and Pagan win Player of the Week award
Cleveland's centerfielder Adam Dunn had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .630 and hit .545, while driving in 10 runs. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to San Francisco's centerfielder Angel Pagan. Angel went 10 for 26 (.385), while hitting 6 HR and collecting 9 RBI.
Monday 8/1/2016: Colorado's Williams named Pitcher of the Month
Carlos Villanueva couldn't have pitched much better than he did in July, and the American League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. His record of 3-1 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. In 44.1 innings of work he allowed just 27 hits while striking out 42, compiling an ERA of just 0.81. Carlos fired two shutouts! Carlos has a record of 12-5 this season, with an ERA of 1.88. In 168 Innings he was able to strike out 140 batters. Carlos has pitched 4 shutouts and 14 complete games. Colorado's pitcher Jerome Williams is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in July. His ERA of just 0.60 helped him to a 7-0 record in July. He worked 60 innings, striking out 49 hitters while walking 16. Jerome fired two shutouts! His ERA of 1.48 helped him to a 21-1 record this year. He struck out 152 and walked 44 in 195 innings. He has 10 complete games and 6 shutouts. He's 2nd in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!
Monday 8/1/2016: Red hot Zimmerman and Marte win Batter of the Month award
Ryan Zimmerman of Cleveland wins his 3rd Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the American League. He hit .457 with 33 RBI and slugged .947 in 94 at bats. Zimmerman has walked 40 times this year and posts a .433 OBP. While batting .367, 126 for 343, he has driven in 79 runs. He's 1st in the American League in batting, 5th in homeruns and 7th in RBI! The National League's best player of the month was Colorado's Starling Marte, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Starling was on fire, hitting .349 with 13 homeruns and 21 RBI. Starling has gone 137 for 415 (.330) this season, hitting 31 homeruns and driving in 75 runs. He has scored 86 runs on his own. He's 4th in the National League in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 10th in RBI!
