Tuesday 9/6/2016: Curtis Granderson pounds three dingers
PHILADELPHIA - Curtis Granderson was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Philadelphia to a 12-0 win over Milwaukee by homering three times. In the 3rd inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Gil Meche. His 2nd shot, off Gil Meche in the 5th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left field. His 3rd shot, a three-run homerun off Nathan Eovaldi in the 8th inning, cleared the fence in right field. Curtis went 4 for 5, with three runs scored and driving in 7 runs. His homerun total this year is 28, along with 105 RBI. It's pretty obvious that he will enter the Hall of Fame some day!
Monday 9/5/2016: Matt Joyce knocks lights out with three homeruns
LOS ANGELES (N) - Hitting a homerun is fine, but hitting three of them in one game is something special. Los Angeles (N)'s leftfielder Matt Joyce accomplished that feat in a 21-6 win over Arizona. His 1st blast, a solo homerun off Scott Maine in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 436 feet from home plate. In the 4th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Paul Sewald. Number 3 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 377 feet, cleared the wall in left field. Matt went 3 for 6, scoring three times and driving in 6 runs. Mitch Moreland was the last player to hit 3 homeruns in a game, doing it 8/14/2016.
Monday 9/5/2016: Colorado's Posey wins Player of the Week award
Brett Lawrie from Detroit wins his 3rd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Brett was on fire, hitting .500 with 5 HR and 11 RBI. His season features a batting average of .263 (127 hits in 482 AB), 16 doubles, 2 triples and 37 taters. Lawrie collected 94 RBI and 69 runs as well. Buster Posey wins his 1st Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 26 at bats he hit .500 with 4 HR and 16 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games.
Sunday 9/4/2016: Cincinnati's Freeman out for full season
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati's lefty Sam Freeman will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Philadelphia on Sunday. After being taken to a local hospital, Freeman was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Bicep Muscle. Sam has a record of 1-1 this season, with an ERA of 2.84. In 44.1 Innings he was able to strike out 24 batters.
Saturday 9/3/2016: Rich Harden pitches 2-hit shutout against Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - Rich Harden had some fun again. Milwaukee hitters did not. Atlanta's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 5th shutout of the season. He now has 57 career shutouts in 392 games started. Harden (21-2) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 9. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Atlanta's first baseman Chase Utley went 3 for 4, hitting two dingers, doubling once, scoring twice and driving in 5 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Harden. The final score of the game was 8-0.
Saturday 9/3/2016: Aaron Judge nabs six hits against Boston
BOSTON - On Saturday, New York (A)'s centerfielder Aaron Judge displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Boston, punishing their pitchers with six hits. A pitch from Roy Halladay in the 5th inning left his bat for a RBI double. He had singles in the 4th inning , in the 4th inning (one RBI) , in the 6th inning (one RBI) , in the 7th inning (one RBI) and in the 8th (one RBI). Aaron scored 5 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .347. New York (A) scored 27 runs on 31 hits.
Friday 9/2/2016: Mark Prior pitches 2-hit shutout against Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - Atlanta's right-hander Mark Prior is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Milwaukee on just 2 hits. It's his 6th shutout this season, and the 40th time he has done it in his career. With one out in the 8th inning Tony Torcato singled to break up the no-hitter. Prior (21-0) struck out 6 and walked none, throwing 75 of 114 pitches for strikes. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' Atlanta's shortstop Jason Kipnis stroked 2 hits in 5 AB, hitting a homerun, stroking a double, scoring twice and driving in 2 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Prior. The final score of the game was 7-0.

DETROIT - Oakland's rightfielder Jose A. Bautista was in good mood after the game against Detroit, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. He hit a three run homerun in the 9th off Joakim Soria for number 2000. His best year so far was 2004 where he hit .301 with 32 homeruns and 104 RBI. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!'

New York (A)'s Gerrit Cole had a terrific August, and it earned him the American League Pitcher of the month award. He struck out 22 hitters in his 4 starts, putting together a record of 4-0 while pitching 22 innings. His ERA in August was 1.17. Opposing players hit .199 against Gerrit this season. While posting an ERA of 1.97 he went 9-6 in 17 starts, fanning 88 and walking 15 hitters. Gerrit has pitched 2 shutouts and 6 complete games. It's the 3rd time that the National League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Colorado's pitcher Jerome Williams. He struck out 36 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 4-1 while pitching 36 innings. His ERA in August was 0.50. The American League's best player of the month was Detroit's Brett Lawrie, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Brett was on fire, hitting .347 with 16 homeruns and 32 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .292, Brett hit .254 and slugged .501. He has collected 84 runs batted in this year. The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to San Diego's Edwin Encarnacion this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Edwin was on fire, hitting .392 with 14 homeruns and 42 RBI. Encarnacion has walked 56 times this year and posts a .361 OBP. While batting .287, 155 for 541, he has driven in 100 runs.
Wednesday 8/31/2016: Merrill Kelly (TEX) will miss 4 weeks
TEXAS - Texas is without its right-hander Merrill Kelly for at least 4 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Martin Prado in a game against Boston. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Ruptured Elbow Ligament. Surgery will be performed next week. This season Kelly compiled an ERA of 5.47, going 7-16 in 26 starts. He fanned 134 while giving up 185 hits in 156.1 innings. He has 5 complete games and one shutout.

ATLANTA - San Francisco's second baseman Matt Holliday was in good mood after the game against Atlanta, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 3000th career hit. He hit a triple in the 7th off Tom Gorzelanny for number 3000. His best year so far was 2010 where he hit .348 with 44 homeruns and 127 RBI. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!' The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
Tuesday 8/30/2016: Ryan Webb dominates Houston, gives up just one hit
HOUSTON - Chicago (A)'s right-hander Ryan Webb is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Houston found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Webb 4th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 45th shutouts in his career. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Webb (11-5) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking 1, throwing 117 pitches. The hitting star for Chicago (A) was first baseman Chris Carter, he collected 2 hits in 5 trips to the plate, blasting a homerun, with 2 RBI. Chicago (A) scored 7 runs on 9 hits.
