BOSTON - Alex Rios hits 'em where they ain't. Houston certainly agrees as Boston's designated hitter unloaded six hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. A pitch from Anthony DeSclafani in the 1st inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 368 feet from home plate in left field. He collected singles in the 2nd inning , in the 3rd (two RBIs) , in the 4th (two RBIs) , in the 5th inning (two RBIs) and in the 7th inning . Alex scored 3 runs, and he collected 7 RBI as well! He is hitting .274 this season, with 10 HR and 32 RBI. Boston improved its record to 15-27, scoring 23 runs on 17 hits.
Monday 5/15/2017: Baltimore's Snell out for 6 weeks
BALTIMORE - Baltimore is without its lefty Blake Snell for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Gregory Polanco in a game against Oakland. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Tricep Muscle which will require surgery. In 8 starts this year Blake struck out 38 batters in 43 innings of work. His ERA is 5.65, his record 1-5.
Monday 5/15/2017: Zimmerman (CLE) and McCutchen (SDG) win P.O.W. award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Ryan Zimmerman, Cleveland's starting third baseman. He hit .556 with 12 RBI and slugged 1.333 in 27 at bats.
