Remember this article? Let's see where everyone is after 10 full seasons. To keep it a true 10-season rank, everything after the afternoon of March 3 will not count. Also, with multiple GM's now having moved on to other teams, I will have to rank the GM's and not the teams they manage going forward.
Points that were traded away will not count for this, because it was not actual spending.
Here we go!
Note: * - Represents Freebies
19. Jenn (Colt .45's 1962-)
Total Points Spent: 0
Freebies Used: 0
PD Reversals: 0
Talent Increases: 0
Secondary Increases: 0
Jenn's Colt 45's do not even having a rewards camp thread at this point...moving on! Also not sure why Chris never did any of those more recent freebies for this team. I'm guessing it slipped his mind.
19. Jeff 2 (Senators 1961-)
Total Points Spent: 0
Freebies Used: 2
PD Reversals: 0
Talent Increases: 1 (1 SP Walks increase*)
Secondary Increases: 1 (SP duration increase*)
There is literally nothing to say here either. Jeff's activity has been at the bare minimum since he joined this league and he's missed some important reversals that have set back his rebuild that much further. He has yet to even make a single post in his reward camp thread - the only posts there are freebies Chris gave to every team. Jeff basically needs to do what Lil Jon said in one of Snoop Dogg's songs and step his game up! At this rate, the Senators will be in the AL East cellar for another 10+ seasons.
18. Stooolfan (Pirates 1962-)
Total Points Spent: 24
Freebies Used: 1
PD Reversals: 2 (Pitchers: 1 PD to Hits, 1 PD to Strikeouts)
Talent Increases: 1 (Pitchers: 1 Hits increase*)
Secondary Increases: 0
Stoool begins the actual spending, with 2 PD reversals he has done thus far. Keep in mind 1962 was his 1st season here. With just about his entire minor league system having been traded away for major league upgrades, expect the Pirates to mostly do PD reversals, if anything for a while.
17. Stutter (Angels 1961-)
Total Points Spent: 83
Freebies Used: 1
PD Reversals: 3 (Hitters: 1 PD to Hits; Pitchers: 1 PD to Doubles, 1 PD to Walks)
Talent Increases: 2 (Hitters: 2 Hits increases)
Secondary Increases: 1 (1 Stealing Ability increase*)
Next is up is Stutter who is at 83 points spent so far. He's done a pair of hits talent increases to 2 of his hitters and a few reversals. The Angels haven't had that many players yet worthy of an important talent increase, but when the right ones come around, Stutter should be able to do what he needs to do to try to get the Angels somewhere. Until then, he'll just keep smoking away and waiting for the right time to make moves.
16. DRowe (Orioles 1956-1958, Phillies 1961-)
Total Points Spent: 220
Freebies Used: 2
PD Reversals: 4 (Pitchers: 1 Hits PD, 2 Homers PD's, 1 Walks PD)
Talent Increases: 5 (Hitters: 4 Hits increases, 1 Homers increase)
Secondary Increases: 1 (1 Running Speed increase*, 1 SP duration increase*)
One of the few GM's that has not had the same team the entire team, DRowe has done a decent amount of spending, but did the majority of his spending during his stint with the Orioles. He is now in charge of an aging Phillies team that is not getting any better. Once a few of the Phillies' younger spects are ready, expect to see more reversals being done.
15. Darryl (Indians 1953, Braves 1960-)
Total Points Spent: 230
Freebies Used: 4
PD Reversals: 5 (Hitters: 1 PD to Running Speed, 4 PD's to Defensive Range)
Talent Increases: 4 (Hitters: 2 Hits increases, 1 Walks increase; Pitchers: 1 Strikeouts increase)
Secondary Increases: 6 (2 Defensive Range increases*, 1 Catching Arm increase*, 1 Fielding Percentage increase*, 2 SP duration increases*)
During his 1 season with the Indians early on, Darryl did not post a spending thread at all. But now with the Braves, he has been by far one of the most unique spenders we have seen. 4 PD reversals to defensive range and strikeouts talent increases for pitchers are simply rare sights for anyone, but if that's how Darryl rolls, then that's how he rolls. Darryl clearly values defensive range more than most of us, although he could save some points in the future and raise defensive range ratings for certain hitters during spring training in the future. That would definitely be a cheaper alternative. Darryl has apparently been one of the more fortunate GM's to not really experience any big PD reversals just yet, but then again, you never know exactly when those PD's may occur.
14. Adam (Twins 1953-)
Total Points Spent: 262
Freebies Used: 5
PD Reversals: 4 (Hitters: 2 PD's to Hits; Pitchers: 1 PD to Hits 1 PD to Homers)
Talent Increases: 6 (Hitters: 1 Hits increase, 1 Walks increase; Pitchers: 1 Hits increase, 1 Homers increase, 2 Strikeouts increases)
Secondary Increases: 1 (2 Defensive Range increases*, 3 Fielding Percentage increases*)
Adam has been another guy to do some of the more unorthodox talent increases, with 2 pitchers of his getting strikeouts increases and putting his Christmas rewards toward defensive range and fielding percentage upgrades. Fielding percentage that certainly should be valued more, but with the ability to teach new positions to prospects and increase defensive ranges during spring training, that could certainly be a cheaper alternative in comparison to spending points on fielding percentage increases. Whatever works though. Adam has been more active with spending points lately, and that is always good to see.
13. Jeff (Reds 1953-)
Total Points Spent: 265
Freebies Used: 3
PD Reversals: 0
Talent Increases: 8 (Hitters: 2 Hits Increases*; Pitchers: 1 Home Runs increase, 5 Walks increases)
Secondary Increases: 2 (1 Stealing Ability increase*, SP duration increase*)
Jeff has been more active lately and has done a lot more spending in the past 6 months than ever before. He still has yet to do any PD reversals and a few of his players have wasted away as a result, but at least he's doing more spending now.
12. Dave (Orioles 1959-)
Total Points Spent: 282
Freebies Used: 1
PD Reversals: 10 (Hitters: 1 PD to Hits, 1 PD to Homers, 3 PD's to Walks, 1 PD to Stealing Ability; Pitchers: 1 PD to Homers, 1 PD to Walks, 2 PD's to SP duration)
Talent Increases: 4 (Hitters: 2 Hits increases, 1 Walks increase; Pitchers: 1 Walks increase)
Secondary Increases: 4 (4 SP duration increases*)
Since taking over the Orioles in 1959, Dave has been one of the more unique spenders generally speaking. Few, if any have put more points towards SP duration increases and reversals than he has. I for one prefer to use spring training to tinker with those ratings, but if that's what floats Dave's boat, then so be it. Dave has also been one of the few to do reversals on fair ratings that drop to poor ratings, among other things. Most of his core has stayed away from the PD bugs thus far, so... good for him regarding that. The Orioles for quite some time have had a very nice farm system and with most of the cavalry up in the majors now, the team's future looks very bright.
11. Ashes (Indians 1954-)
Total Points Spent: 322
Freebies Used: 2
PD Reversals: 6 (Hitters: 1 PD to Homers; Pitchers: 2 PD's to Hits, 1 PD to Walks, 2 PD's to Strikeouts)
Talent Increases: 8 (Hitters: 4 Hits increases, 1 Homers increase, 1 Walks increase; Pitchers: 1 Hits increase, 1 Walks increase)
Secondary Increases: 1 (1 Stealing Ability increase*, 1 SP duration increase*)
Ashes hasn't been around too much in quite some time, due to his very busy military schedule, but he's done a decent number of talent increases and some reversals when they have needed to be done. Ashes doesn't have that many points right now, but his team could certainly use a few talent increases in the minors.
10. Noah (Athletics 1957-)
Total Points Spent: 329
Freebies Used: 4
PD Reversals: 16 (Hitters: 2 PD's to Hits, 3 PD's to Homers, 1 PD to Strikeouts; Pitchers: 4 PD's to Hits, 2 PD's to Homers, 2 PD's to Walks, 2 PD's to Strikeouts)
Talent Increases: 7 (Hitters: 3 Hits increases, 1 Homers increase, 1 Walks increase; Pitchers: 2 Walks increases)
Secondary Increases: 4 (4 SP duration increases*)
Noah has had quite a few reversals to do in the past few months, but lucky for him, many of those have been cheap because just about all of them have been to his younger players. As a result, he is still as loaded with points in the bank as anyone right now and does not have that many more talent increases he needs to do for a little while. Talk about having financial security in this league...Noah is definitely up there with that!
9. Break (Red Sox 1953-)
Total Points Spent: 381
Freebies Used: 2
PD Reversals: 20 (Hitters: 6 PD's to Hits, 2 PD's to Homers, 3 PD's to Walks, 3 PD's to Strikeouts, 1 PD to Stealing Ability; Pitchers: 3 PD's to Hits, 2 PD's to Strikeouts)
Talent Increases: 6 (Hitters: 4 Hits increases, 1 Homers increase; Pitchers: 1 Hits increase)
Secondary Increases: 2 (2 SP duration increases*)
Break's once shitty luck with PD's seems to be behind him, unlike his shitty luck with long-term injuries to his pitching. Nonetheless, he hasn't had to do that much spending, but did do 2 talent increases in the winter. With just about all his points now having recently been traded away, Break will need to pray that his team can stay PD-free for at least the rest of this current season.
8. Spencer (Giants 1953-)
Total Points Spent: 409
Freebies Used: 2
PD Reversals: 13 (Hitters: 1 PD to Hits, 1 PD to Walks; Pitchers: 2 PD's to Hits, 2 PD's to Homers, 4 PD's to Walks, 2 PD's to Strikeouts, 1 PD to SP duration)
Talent Increases: 9 (Hitters: 3 Hits increases, 1 Homers increase; Pitchers: 1 Hits increase, 4 Walks increases)
Secondary Increases: 2 (1 Running Speed increase*, 1 SP duration increase*)
Spencer has recently been hit with a good number of PD reversals he has had to do, but at least they can be reversed, right? He's had worse luck with PD's for pitchers over time than hitters, but has certainly done his fair share of spending when he has had to. The Giants' minor league system is rather dry, so it might take some time before Spencer has a good prospect that would really be worthy of a talent increase.
7. Chris (Yankees 1953-)
Total Points Spent: 447
Freebies Used: 5
PD Reversals: 23 (Hitters: 6 PD's to Hits, 1 PD to Homers, 3 PD's to Walks, 1 PD to Strikeouts; Pitchers: 3 PD's to Hits, 3 PD's to Homers, 1 PD to Walks, 5 PD's to SP duration)
Talent Increases: 6 (Hitters: 1 Hits increase, 2 Homers increases, 2 Walks increases; Pitchers: 1 Walks increase)
Secondary Increases: 9 (1 Stealing Ability increase*, 3 Defensive Range increases*, 1 Catcher Arm increase*, 4 SP duration increases*)
Chris is another GM that has focused a lot on secondary talent increases and reversing decreases on secondary talents. He's been fortunate to not have had to do that many reversals in recent time and of course was the guy that made talent increases more expensive. Then again, with more ways to points, it could still end up balancing out.
6. Mark (White Sox 1953-)
Total Points Spent: 503
Freebies Used: 2
PD Reversals: 24 (Hitters: 5 PD's to Hits, 2 PD's to Homers, 5 PD's to Strikeouts; Pitchers: 5 PD's to Hits, 1 PD to Homers, 1 PD to Walks, 1 PD to Strikeouts, 4 PD's to SP duration)
Talent Increases: 7 (Hitters: 4 Hits increases, 1 Homers increase; Pitchers: 1 Homers increase)
Secondary Increases: 2 (1 Stealing Ability increase, 2 SP duration increases*)
As we move toward the top tier of point spenders, Mark has spent the vast majority of his points on reversals thus far. Hits and strikeouts reversals for hitters have clearly been the most common. He's also one of the more notable GM's to reverse SP duration drops regularly, as opposed to waiting for the next spring training to bump it back up for free. Mark currently has a few spects he could do some spending on, but none of them would instantly turn into extremely valuable spects if he were to do them, so we'll see if he ends up doing those increases or not.
5. Matt C. (Cardinals 1953-)
Total Points Spent: 548
Freebies Used: 2
PD Reversals: 30 (Hitters: 1 PD to Homers, 3 PD's to Walks, 2 PD's to Defensive Range; Pitchers: 8 PD's to Hits, 1 PD to Doubles, 4 PD's to Homers, 6 PD's to Walks, 4 PD's to Strikeouts, 1 PD to SP duration)
Talent Increases: 8 (Hitters: 2 Hits increases, 3 Walks increases; Pitchers: 2 Hits increases, 1 Walks increase)
Secondary Increases: 2 (1 Stealing Ability increase*, SP duration increase*)
Matt C. lately has had some of the worst PD luck of anyone, particularly to his pitchers. He's already made 30 total reversals over the first 10 seasons and nearly 1/3 of them were pitchers that got avoiding hits decreases. Some of those reversals have been very costly as well. Matt has a few spects he can do some spending on, but with his points total on the low side, he will probably try to build that total back up first.
4. Trevor (Tigers 1955-)
Total Points Spent: 582
Freebies Used: 2
PD Reversals: 18 (Hitters: 2 PD's to Hits, 2 PD's to Homers, 3 PD's to Walks, 1 PD to Strikeouts, 1 Stealing Ability increase; Pitchers: 2 PD's to Hits, 2 PD's to Homers, 3 PD's to Walks, 2 PD's to Strikeouts)
Talent Increases: 12 (Hitters: 2 Hits increases, 5 Homers increases, 1 Walks increase; Pitchers: 1 Hits increase, 3 Walks increases)
Secondary Increases: 2 (1 Defensive Range increase*, 1 SP duration increase*)
Trevor has continued to be among the big points spenders since coming through in 1955. He has done a wide range of talent increases and PD reversals, plus always seems to have a lot of points to work with thanks to his high powered offense and very solid pitching staff. Trevor's farm system is currently in good shape and he doesn't have that many more important talent increases to do at the moment. With time though, someone really worthy of an increase will pop up and Trevor will probably give that player the increase he deserves. He's definitely among the best here at both budgeting points and spending them wisely.
3. Jeremy (Dodgers 1953-)
Total Points Spent: 643
Freebies Used: 2
PD Reversals: 29 (Hitters: 8 PD's to Hits, 3 PD's to Homers, 2 PD's to Walks, 4 PD's to Strikeouts; Pitchers: 2 PD's to Hits, 1 PD to Doubles, 2 PD's to Homers, 3 PD's to Walks, 2 PD's to Strikeouts, 2 PD's to SP duration)
Talent Increases: 9 (Hitters: 5 Hits increases; Pitchers: 1 Hits increase, 3 Walks increases)
Secondary Increases: 2 (2 SP duration increases*)
Another consistent big points spender is Jeremy, who hasn't done that many talent increases (to be fair, he did start with a ridiculously stacked team and has gotten tons of amazing PD increases over time), but has certainly done just as many PD reversals as anyone to keep all those talent ratings where they started at. He's another GM that has spent points on reversing SP durations instead of fixing them for free in the following spring training. To each his own.
2. Matt A. (Cubs 1953-)
Total Points Spent: 759
Freebies Used: 3
PD Reversals: 17 (Hitters: 1 PD to Homers, 1 PD to Walks; Pitchers: 4 PD's to Hits, 3 PD's to Homers, 7 PD's to Walks, 1 PD to SP duration)
Talent Increases: 19 (Hitters: 5 Hits increases, 7 Walks increases; Pitchers: 3 Hits increases, 4 Walks increases)
Secondary Increases: 2 (1 Stealing Ability increase*, 1 SP Duration increase)
Despite not having as many posts in his spend thread since I last did this, Matt has continued to be one of the biggest talent increase spenders with now 19 altogether. In fact, no one over the first 10 seasons did more of them than him. He's clearly very good at keeping track of his points and spending them well, which a few others could look to improve upon. One of these days, all these talent increases will help lead to some success for the Cubbies.
1. Shale (Pirates 1953-1961, Mets 1962-)
Total Points Spent: 956
Freebies Used: 3
PD Reversals: 22 (Hitters: 3 PD's to Hits, 4 PD's to Homers, 1 PD to Walks, 1 PD to Strikeouts; Pitchers: 7 PD's to Hits, 3 PD's to Homers, 3 PD's to Walks)
Talent Increases: 17 (Hitters: 8 Hits increases, 2 Homers increases, 3 Walks increases; Pitchers: 4 Hits increases)
Secondary Increases: 6 (3 Running Speed increases, 2 Stealing Ability increases*, 1 SP Duration increase)
Not surprised I'm #1 after being at #1 the first time I did this. The points add up and I write these articles and do what I can to earn as many points as possible for a reason. Matt A. is the only guy who has spent more on talent increases than myself, and a good number of others have done more PD reversals than me, but some of those pricey George Spencer reversals in particular really put me over the top.
Spending points on PD reversals is no fun for anyone, but I'm just thankful that for the most part, I've always had enough points on hand to take care of business at all times. And of course, with talent increases now more expensive, that only means I have to put in even more work to be able to have enough points to do more of them in the future.
I'll be doing this every 5 seasons or so going forward. 10th anniversary points rankings (regarding accumulation this time) coming up next!
