Given the somewhat accelerated sim schedule, the season does sometimes fly by. This became an issue a few seasons ago when it was decided that the waiver trade deadline had to be pushed back --- after all, the real time between the July 31 to Aug 31 sims were sometimes as short as 3 days. As such, the waiver trade deadline was moved to the end of the season, which I think has worked well so far --- hasn't been abused yet.
With that, and given 2 issues that came up recently --- 1) I forgot to notify owners (even though the July 31st trade deadline is commonplace and even a feature in the game) ahead of time and 2) I absentmindedly simmed to August 1st and not July 31st, I think it is worth putting up the above poll.

I just don't/can't see a good reason not to move it back to the end of August. At least until we get more teams in the league, and I'm not even sure if that would change my opinion.
Keep waiver trades end of year, but keep in mind we're limiting guys from playing in the playoffs if they aren't acquired before when? End of September?

Yea, sure end of September. It would not be too difficult to enforce as all I would have to do is keep a short list (there won't be THAT many trades between whatever deadline we choose and the end of September) in the General board of "ineligible playoff players"

What we've been doing is fine, with trade deadline July 31 and waiver deadline end of season. If people aren't trading in July, why would August automatically make them trade more?
The real problem is too many people sit on their teams instead of actively trying to make moves. I just don't see this as the 1 and only solution to get the trade market more active. People just need to step up, post blocks and get things done.
While I'm at it, a few too many people here overvalue their trade assets, which makes trading that much more difficult.

I don't care what happens with this, but again, the result of this poll will not definitively get more people trading. The people themselves need to step up and do more.

Nobody said it "definitely would." But a lot of folks show up late to start trying to sign potential FA guys, and are either available to talk trade at that point b/c they are around, or decide to shop guys they can't sign. I just thought it might free up a few more trades each season to not have to pass them thru waivers. Can't hurt. |
